I had the opposite experience... my Philips DirecTivo (35 hour Tivo + DirecTV receiver) was $100. That was an awesome deal... I bought an additional Sony receiver for $50 and the Dish was maybe $100. I think they even offered free installation but since I didn't want to wait, I declined.

That Tivo rocks -- 35 hours has been plenty for us. It helps that we have an original 14 hour in the bedroom, and even with 14 hours we never really "missed" much.
