Windows 10 Successor Codenamed 'Redstone,' Targeting 2016 Launch 197

MojoKid writes: Windows 10 isn't even out the door yet, so what better time than now to talk about its successor? Believe it or not, there's a fair bit of information on it floating around already, including its codename: "Redstone." Following in the footsteps of 'Blue' and 'Threshold', Redstone is an obvious tie-in to Microsoft's purchase of Minecraft, which it snagged from Mojang last year. Redstone is an integral material in the game, used to create simple items like a map or compass as well as logic gates for building electronic devices, like a calculator or automatic doors. The really important news is that we could see Windows Redstone sometime in 2016.

Every Browser Hacked At Pwn2own 2015, HP Pays Out $557,500 In Awards 237

darthcamaro writes: Every year, browser vendors patch their browsers ahead of the annual HP Pwn2own browser hacking competition in a bid to prevent exploitation. The sad truth is that it's never enough. This year, security researchers were able to exploit fully patched versions of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and Apple Safari in record time. For their efforts, HP awarded researchers $557,500. Is it reasonable to expect browser makers to hold their own in an arms race against exploits? "Every year, we run the competition, the browsers get stronger, but attackers react to changes in defenses by taking different, and sometimes unexpected, approaches," Brian Gorenc manager of vulnerability research for HP Security Research said.

Hideo Kojima To Depart Konami; Metal Gear Franchise Changing Hands 42

An anonymous reader writes: Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is set to leave the video game publisher Konami, ending 29 years of service. Konami had announced a restructuring earlier this year, and observant fans recently noticed the removal of references to Kojima Productions from the company's web site. A source speaking to Gamespot states that both developments are the result of a "power struggle" between the studio and its parent. Konami has now confirmed to the English-speaking press that Kojima will work on The Phantom Pain until it is completed, but they are searching for new staff to take over the Metal Gear series. Kojima's only other announced project was Silent Hills, a horror game created in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro.

Mobile Phone Use Soon To Be Allowed On European Flights 96

New submitter jchevali writes: The BBC reports that mobile phone use on European flights is soon to be allowed. This follows official safety agency findings that their use on the aircraft really poses no risk. Details on the implementation and the timeline for changes will depend on each individual airline.

Umm no. All NBNCo do is provide a connection from you to your chosen RSP (reatil service provider), nothing more. Your RSP is the one that needs to provision the bandwidth from the PoI you're connected to, to the Internet.

To me, Blizzard's reasons and excuses are clearly nonsense.

And you have two clear choices
1) Accept Blizzard's design and pay for the game/play it
2) Don't accept Blizzard's design and don't pay for/play the game.

There is no 3) I'll pay but complain loudly that this isn't what I paid for.

Yet another "click here dozens of times so we can get more advertising revenue" article. This could have been done in 3-4 pages, not 10+.

They also clearly haven't used Windows 7 as it has the ability to mount VHDs as well. (Windows 8 improves upon that by adding ISO mounting support) The way they wrote that "feature" is as if the VHD mounting is absent in previous versions.

Yup, same here. It's frustrating that my wife and I both have an iPhone 4. She's on Optus and I'm on Telstra. Both of us will have "full reception" but she can't access any websites/youtube/facebook/etc. and I can. It's even more embarrassing for Optus when I tether her phone to mine because she can't access the data she's paid for. Optus even called her up the other day and offered here an in-home "mini-cell thingo". To which she repeatedly told the moron that the phone uses WIFI AT HOME!!! IF YOU WANT TO FIX MY ISSUES YOU'LL HAVE TO IMPROVE CELL-RECEPTION AT THE SHOPPING CENTRES I FREQUENT. She can't wait to switch to Telstra (boy did I never think to hear those words come out of her mouth, let alone mine, considering how hopeless Telstra are with the rest of their communications)
