Man Wants to Donate His Heart Before He Dies 456

Gary Phebus wants to donate his heart, lungs, and liver. The problem is he wants to donate them before he dies. Gary was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2008. Phebus says he'd like to be able to donate his organs before they deteriorate, and doesn't consider his request suicide because he's "dead anyway."

So if this thing is so huge, why can't i find any pictures of it? I'd love for someone to point out a satellite image of this thing. Does it really exist or is like global warming - something scientists dreamed up to justify their jobs. (I actually believe in global worming, but where are the pictures of this trash vortex?)

Submission + - Tech workers go nude for charity calendar (itpro.co.uk) 3

nk497 writes: London tech workers have stripped off to create their very own naked calendar for charity. Created by TechCrunch Europe contributing editor Milo Yiannopoulous, London Nude Tech 2010 isn't half as frightening as you'd think. It features photos (a few included at the link) of female and male tech entrepreneurs — one with strategically placed Mac — for every month of the year. It's raising funds for Take Heart India, so pick up your copy — it's for charity, right?

>>>Protecting property is hardly justification for risking someone's life, thief or no thief

With that view we would devolve into an anarchist society, because the thieves know there will be no consequences for their actions. They can just steal cars left-and-right, and the homeowners won't be able to stop them (for fear of being arrested, as happened to my local citizen). Thieves would be the new power while the rest of us cower behind our closed doors. That's anarchy.

BTW it's not "just property":

A car is worth about 20,000 dollars which is around 2000 hours worth of labor on the typical American job. So the thief has stolen a year of somebody's life and/or labor. If an employer made you work for a year, and then withheld paying your salary, I bet you'd bitch about it. But if a thief does the same, steals a year's worth of salary, then it's okay to just let him drive off??? Yeah right.

When the world transitions to IPv6 and cellphones/VoIP finally kill the landline, will separate phone numbers go the way of the dodo? Will we just give each other an IPv6 address or will there be a "personal" DNS system to connect by name?

You don't need IPv6 for that -- a SIP address looks very similar to an email address, and if you have the right software you can "dial" them right now.

Comment Make your own problem (Score 2, Insightful) 195

Find a problem you have, and try to solve it by programming. Like make an address book, where you can enter in people's information and search by last name or something. Or make a program that organized your MP3 and finds duplicates. Or make a program that automatically solves Sokudo puzzles. It'll be something with utility you can use and play with, and improve over time as your skills increase. Good Luck!!
