Some of the largest buyers of Chinese manufactured transceivers are the hyperscalers. The hyperscalers represent more than half of Zhongji Innolight's total revenue. While there may be other sources, blocking the purchase of Chinese manufactured transceivers may have a significant impact on the AI data center builds.

So, it's just another trump shakedown dressed up as national security then. He shakes this stick, mysteriously and completely coincidentally Anthropic and OpenAI and all the others pony up a few million in donations to his campaign or buy his crypto or gold shoes or whatever and all of a sudden the issue goes away ... until the next round of bullying begins.

I work in IT in K12, and we've been looking at these because the unit price is the same or *lower* than the crappy Lenovos we've been giving the kids for years with all the new price hikes this year. That, and they're better machines for the money. They're looking for close to a grand now for a crappy Lenovo 100w with 8GB RAM that was $400 a couple of years ago.

Yeah, me too. I struggled through snap .. disabling it and not using it, but this is tone deaf bullshit. Who asked for this crap? Nobody. I'm out. I've been comparing Mint and KDE Neon for new PC. Is this just yet another example of a South African Billionaire tech bro breaking things for no good reason?

I just did this with my very old Amazon Firestick. I remember when they started with updates that suddenly introduced the "Now playing on Prime" bar at the top, then they put an ad banner on it. I dumped Prime when the in-show ads started, but was using the firestick to stream files on my own network from Plex at first then I moved to Jellyfin. The final straw was when I started looking at the amounts of telemetry and other crap data going across the network, and if I blocked them the firestick just wouldn't work ... even though it was simply streaming data on my own LAN. The flash was fiddly, but it worked and no more telemetry, no more ads, no more crap. This should be the default, not the enshittified alternative.
