Darwin award...

Wow, this guy just became the next leading contender for the Darwin award. I would sum up the criteria for winning as follows:

The "contestant" exhibits a lack of intelligence so significant that he performs actions nearly certain to result in dire, possibly life-ending circumstances. Furthermore, the contestant exhibits an apparent lack of ability to understand and/or recognize imminent danger to himself, even though the vast majority of human-beings immediately recognize that danger.

I suspect that he has a good chance of winning. Granted, perhaps this doesn't quite rank up there with driving a motorcycle 200+ MPH (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0922042speed 1.html), but it must be close.

While I suspect I disagree with Linus on this topic, I think the journalist did not do a good job of portraying Linus's views in a way that best brings out his argument and that argument's strongpoints. Though of course, if I know that Linus did not get a fair opportunity to project his arguments at their best, then maybe I know that I don't know whether I would agree with Linus.....
