Artist and writer, Justin Mullins, argues that it does. He reinterprets Dali's Lobster Telephone using the mathematics of vacuous truths, compares proofs of Pythagoras' Theorem to Monet's repeated studies of Rouen Cathedral and links Einstein's struggle with the cosmological constant to Géricault's Raft of the Medusa . Mullins says all art is homomorphic--transformations that preserves structure--and says his own work follows the same principle.

KentuckyFC writes: In DEcember last year, NASA's Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) picked up an 60-meter asteroid that appeared to be heading our way. Further observations quickly ruled out the possibility of a collision but in April, the agency announced that 2024 YR4 had a 4 per cent chance of hitting the moon instead. Now astronomers have calculated the likely consequences and say the impact would create a crater 1 km across and send 100 millions tonnes of ejecta hurtling into space and towards us. The risks to astronauts and satellite systems are clearly existential. The team say this kind of risk is not considered in planetary defence plans, which now urgently need to be updated.

That is a difficult task, not because of a single, insurmountable obstacle, but due to a thousand tiny, complex ones. Humans are good at this but now a new generation of AI-enabled systems are beginning to automate this process. In one recent advance, researchers at the University of Oxford and elsewhere created a set of knowledge agents that work together to carry out the complex task of preparing, calibrating and measuring superconducting qubits in a quantum computing laboratory based on natural language prompts. As this approach is applied more widely, it raises the prospect of a new kind of discovery, analogous to the emerging technique of “vibe coding” enabled by platforms like Replit and Cursor. "Vibe science” would allow researchers to immediately test ideas and hypotheses developed in brainstorming sessions, by intuition or guess work. The prospects for science look good. For scientists? Not so much.

Unveiled in December 2023, the JetBrains AI Assistant rates only 2.3 stars out of a possible five stars on the company’s ratings system, with 851 total ratings as of May 1. “I’ve been a long-time user of JetBrains IDEs and generally appreciate the thoughtful tooling they offer,” reviewer Haso Keric wrote. “Unfortunately, the AI Assistant doesn’t live up to the same standard. It feels bolted on rather than integrated, and it quickly becomes more of a novelty than a productivity tool.”

Weeks after BIOS developer AMI released an update fixing a critical vulnerability in its MegaRAC baseband management controller (BMC) firmware used in many enterprise servers and storage systems, OEM patches addressing the issue are slowly trickling out.

The latest vendor to release patches was Lenovo, which appears to have taken until April 17 to release its patch. And although Asus patches for four motherboard models appeared only this week, the exact time these were posted is unconfirmed; the dates on the updates range from March 12 to March 28.

Among the first to release a patch was Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), which on March 20 released an update for its HPE Cray XD670, used for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. Other OEMs known to use AMI’s MegaRAC BMC include AMD, Ampere Computing, ASRock, ARM, Fujitsu, Gigabyte, Huawei, Nvidia, Supermicro, and Qualcomm.

This part isn't new. What's new is the math. Thanks to Trump's tariff war and 'moves by China to halt the export of bismuth, which might hold the key to future faster and more efficient semiconductors,' the few dollars' worth of materials in one server might be enough ROI to make it worthwhile. Gartner analyst Autumn Stanish is positive about the Western Digital news, but advises caution. The changes, which have been debated over a year, were expected and will be phased in gradually. But Jon Nelson, a principal advisory director at Info-Tech Research Group, questioned the motives of the group: "They are doing this under the auspices of reducing risk, but I question if that is the real reason. Do the people making up this group have a conflict of interest in that this move could generate additional revenue for their companies?”

Go find someone that survived the camps of WWII. Let them show you the tattoos, listen to their stories on what Hitler was really like. Go find some Cubans that drifted to freedom on a raft of milk jugs. Talk to them what a real dictator is.

Thing is, we should only report Trump supporters and their families. I know some already and this is very tempting.

Go ahead, do it. I dare you too. This is not the same Trump administration as the first one. Filing a false clam like that is a crime, and opens you for civil liability.

You idiots need to back off and read the god damn room. Trump didn't just eek by like in 2016. He was carried in golden surf board riding a red wave. He won the popular vote and the electoral college by margins not seen since Reagan. An not in just one demographic; in almost all demographics he was up by double digits. This includes Latins who he is threatening to deport. They don't want the illegals here ether.

An it just doesn't stop there. Democrats lost the House and the Senate, as well. You almost lost California. Take a look at the district maps on election returns for California. They tossed out that horrible DA and replace him with a Republican. Next round of elections, California might turn red.

What happened Thursday was a sound rejection of the Democratic party's agenda. Might be time for you step back and examine your own policies. An if you are here illegally, might be time for you get legal or hit that road back to where you came from.

itwbennett writes: A move announced last week by the new Labour government in the UK could mean the estimated 1.6 million organizations that use .io domain names may have to eventually replace that ccTLD, according to a report in Computerworld. As part of a diplomatic deal, the UK will hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius and in so doing will eliminate the region represented by the .io domain.
