Compare this to what you would have said last year.

I remember it well enough.
Read under "its expenses". All this is extremely costly and needs skills I started to enumerate. It is also cheap today, but it will not remain so.
If not for the Chinese factor, prices would have skyrocketed already. Real competition there is what keeps prices in check. And this, while being good for us, is not so good for (esp. US) AI industry. No real perspective on ROI, and we have yet to see what happens when the bubble bursts.
Just the other day, I compared AI agent use to the Icarus flight.

Of course, you must have skills usually not associated with the manager caste - ask precise questions, be realistic in expectations, and be ready to jump in and fix in ten minutes instead of spending time on 5 prompts. Among others.
So it is not a question about AI being usable or not; it is a question about it being useful enough to cover its expenses and ensure ROI.
An improbable thing to happen.

I have Macs, a Windows laptop, and several Linux laptops and workstations.

I think I remember a few crashes per year in the last 16 years I have been using Macs. Caveat - I reboot them when I see signs.

Linux boxes are more stable than Macs. I do not have to reboot at least once every two months because it's starting to slow down.

Windows has problems every single week.

Espressif ESP32, definitely, and Heltec if you want LoRaWAN.

ESP32-C6 is great for low-power uses, while the ESP32-C3-based Heltec CT62 module is an all-in-one including LoRaWAN and everything ESP32-C6 offers except for ultra-low-power cores.

ESP-IDF for development, with Eclipse based IDE by Espressif or CLion. One can also use Arduino IDE for it.

Google is the only one with long term strategy, IMO. LLMs are much more of a better search tools than a coder of any seniority. They are also very good at translation. The ability of LLM to generate fake content is also an important "skill". A place in Google for all of that.

As for receivers, they are geolocating them one by one, and the police collect them. In Ukraine, they target them with drones and artillery.

It is a good thing Russia cannot send SWAT teams to enforce their laws like some other country did to the MEGA upload guy and his New Zealand company.

There is a lot of drama in the world currently, but interest groups like Nvidia have their agendas. Paint a dramatic picture and money will pour in. As many people equate efficiency/shorter waiting times with quantity of money, it is what will be pushed for. And probably achieved.
Chip independence may be critical or not, it may take 20 years or 2, but that is not an issue. How much money will flow because of all of it is the issue here.
I know it sounds cynical but it is exactly what at least most of it is about. If not all.
