Well, for what it's worth, I can sometimes tell when my cell phone (Motorola SLVR L7) is updating, or getting a message before the message actually arrives. How? When the phone is in my pants pocket, I can feel what I best describe as a fluttery feeling in my leg localized to where the phone is resting.

Now, that said, I *do* have some random bizarre nerve damage in my body, so I'm not the best person to really say one way or another if it's causing problems or or I'm just more sensitive to it, but I swear against all that is geek, I KNOW when it updates.

Good? Bad? I dunno, but it truly is an odd sensation.

Feed In China, IPO Mania In Full Force (techdirt.com)

Although the IPO market in the US has come strongly back to life, there's still no sign that things are wildly overheated like they were during the bubble. Although profit-less companies are managing to go public, investors seem to be discerning between quality and junk once the shares begin trading. But, if you're looking for a wild IPO market, check out what's going on in China these days. New offerings in Shanghai are routinely seeing massive first-day spikes, just like dot come stocks 7 years ago. Of course a rash of these deals signifies an inefficient market, as the newly public companies leave a lot of money on the table. On the other hand, public market investors go crazy over these spikes, because they look like instant wealth creation. And in China, going crazy they are, as the stock market has become a national obsession, with people taking on massive personal leverage in order to invest. So while things may look okay here, from a global perspective, there are signs of madness once again.

Feed Testosterone May Help Men With Multiple Sclerosis (sciencedaily.com)

A small pilot study suggests that testosterone treatment is safe, well-tolerated and may reduce symptoms, slow brain degeneration and increase muscle mass in men with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, the most common form of the disease, according to a new article.

Hilf Claims Free Software Movement Dead 395

moe1975 writes to mention that Bill Hilf has taken a rather aggressive stance with regard to the status of the Free Software movement. With claims like; "The Free Software movement is dead. Linux doesn't exist in 2007. Even Linus has got a job today" it would certainly seem that the next offensive is going to be sponsored by denial. "For the desktop, Hilf sees a new frontier in terms of rich client programming. With more and more services by Amazon, Google, Yahoo and, of course, Microsoft being run as services rather than as software installed locally, it will be up to the desktop to provide richer functionality."

Journal Journal: First entry!! woohoo...

Well, this is the first entry. HA! I was peeled away my old sysadmin job @PSU forceably. (You know it's bad when academia starts 'downsizing') I became a luddite for about 6 months, but I'm slowly creeping back out into the world again. Maybe this is where I'll blog. Happier stomping grounds from a life long ago (Ga5in seems to be doing a bang-up job! Hope they treat him right ;-).
