I was a dyed in the wool Sony TV fanatic, until my past TV purchase.
We've got a 52XBR2 that we have had for years.
Got a Bravia KD65X85K TV for install in a new build house.
I was using HDMI eARC to push audio to my AVR which is another room.
After a short period of time, the sound would start dropping out for a couple of seconds. Very annoying. And then occasionally the TV would just turn itself off for 15-30 seconds. Really annoying.
Doing some digging, this line of Sony TV's implements CEC in firmware as opposed to a discrete chip. As a result, the firmware frequently loses track of the process and has t0 reset itself, thus the dropouts. Whisky Thank Foxtrot?
Disconnecting the HDMI cable, resetting the TV to delivered status and plugging in a Toslink cable and all this stupidity goes away. The downside is, the level on the Toslink is constant, so I had to gin up an automation in Home Assistant to adjust the volume on the AVR when the sound on the remote was changed.
Remind me to buy another Sony TV again, real soon....
