Its actually a very good technology and you don't have to re-write everything and unlike what most people think, you don't need RPC or to write Javascript. And of course, it all depends on how you use it. Good engineering practice always wins in the end.

The podzinger web site recently released indexing for video. You can now find video content as easily as google allows looking up websites. You can also play the only the snippet you want to hear via your web browser. The technology behind this is a speech to text conversion software originally designed for the US government to keep tabs on "people of interest".

BBN has released a site http://podzinger.com. Want to find a pod cast, this is the place to go. All the audio of each podcast is translated into text and made searchable. Forget ITunes or google. This is the way to go.
