Submission + - Bill Gates speaks out against immigration curbs

Jeian writes: None other than Bill Gates has spoken out against tighter immigration policies in the US. According to Gates, the US is losing skilled immigrants to other countries that are easier to immigrate to. Among his comments: "I personally witness the ill effects of these policies on an almost daily basis at Microsoft."

Remote Control To Prevent Aircraft Hijacking 544

Snad writes "The UK's Evening Standard is reporting that Boeing plans to roll out aircraft remote control systems in a bid to eliminate the threat of terrorist hijackings, and prevent any repetition of the events of September 11 2001. 'Scientists at aircraft giant Boeing are testing the tamper-proof autopilot system which uses state-of-the-art computer and satellite technology. It will be activated by the pilot flicking a simple switch or by pressure sensors fitted to the cockpit door that will respond to any excessive force as terrorists try to break into the flight deck. Once triggered, no one on board will be able to deactivate the system. Currently, all autopilots are manually switched on and off at the discretion of pilots. A threatened airliner could be flown to a secure military base or a commercial airport, where it would touch down using existing landing aids known as 'autoland function'.'"

Submission + - CSPAN to adopt Creative Common Styled License

Trillian_1138 writes: "CSPAN, a network in the United States dedicated to airing governmental proceedings, has adopted a Creative Commons style license for all its content. This follows the network claiming Speaker of the House Pelosi's use of C-Span videos on her site violated their copyright . Specifically, "C-SPAN is introducing a liberalized copyright policy for current, future, and past coverage of any official events sponsored by Congress and any federal agency — about half of all programming offered on the C-SPAN television networks — which will allow non-commercial copying, sharing, and posting of C-SPAN video on the Internet, with attribution." The press release should be on the C-SPAN website here but, as of this submission, the link is not functional. The question remains whether videos of governmental proceedings should be public domain by default or whether the attribution requirement is reasonable in the face of easy video copying and distribution."

Journal Journal: You are invited to take a drink from the Firehose

"You are invited to take a drink from the Firehose"

Wow do I feel special! How is it that someone like me, a person with "Karma: Terrible" gets invited to drink from the divine spring that is the Firehose. I could use the water, I am fasting for Lent, and water helps with the hunger pains. Usually just one meal a day now!

No, not this Divin.
