But do ask yourself why you want to go to Oxford or Cambridge before you get there.

I was discussing this with a classics graduate from Oxford recently who was fairly scathing about it, but it also opened a great many doors for him and did enable him to study in the US for a masters afterward. He actually chose to do this rather than pay the few pounds extra and get a MA automatically. At both Oxford and Cambridge this is possible to my knowledge, gaining an Masters without putting in any extra work above th

I was rejected, but I think going to University in London more than makes up for not going to Cambridge :-), with the nightlife etc.

What the first poster said about certain names opening doors that would otherwise be closed is definitely true. I've been the beneficiary of that myself (though not from Cambridge/Oxford, as I live in the US).
