    • Augustine (354-430)

Happiness is a union of the soul with God after one has died

Bodily pleasures are relatively inferior to spiritual pleasures.

Philosophical reasoning is not the path to wisdom and happiness.

A love of God and faith in Jesus is the only path to happiness.

God is the one to allow people to practice the love of God.

One must love God in order to fulfill moral law.

People are inherently evil; only the grace of God (or is it merit to be saved?) can save them.

  • My answers above 75%:
    1. John Stuart Mill (100%)

But reading the summarized bullet points of these guys, I don't really agree with what they say I agreed with. Go figure.

    • Oh, and ditto yourself and CyranoVR re: the bulletted summaries.
    • Oooh,Epicureans! It's a real pity that his name has been taken to represent an idealogy in complete contrast with his philosophy.

You don't strike me as very Epicurean (in the original meaning), though. I may be off, but your attitude is very like my mother's (haha), and that attitude is contrary to his philosophy of not eating good food, drinking good wine, or engaging in pleasurable activities. The last I can understand a bit, because the only entertainment was religious orgies, and that's a good way to g
