Austin is nice. At least when it's under 80F.

I actively avoid purchasing from companies based in Texas, though. And other states (Arkansas and Tennessee come to mind) that are playing the same "race to the bottom". I choose to vote with my wallet. But don't forget the supposed "good guys" like Apple, which moved its corporation to another country altogether to dodge taxes -- the same "race to the bottom" but on a global scale.

Bleeding heart liberals may be idiots, but they do believe in the rule of law. Their sin is in believing that everyone is redeemable. Christ might approve, but most voters don't.

However, at this point in the USA, MAGAs and Republicans are actually responsible for the destruction of the rule of law. We have the president breaking the law, repeatedly, daily, whenever he's not enriching himself by trading stocks using insider information, while abusing the apparatus of law enforcement under his direct control to both protect himself from rightful prosecution, and to direct the prosecution of his perceived enemies.

Your support for the illegal abuse of power is un-American. I look forward to you being deported to Russia or North Korea once a sensible government is reinstated here.

Back when I tried it, it installed super invasive stuff on my system, with a similar feel to an Adobe installer; later on, it took me an hour or two later to remove all of the tentacles that DropBox had shat on my OS (which is admittedly less than it took me to remove the Adobe shatware). And this was on macOS, which comes with network-capable drive mounting as part of the UNIX-based OS -- i.e. no install of any software should have been required just to use a service like DropBox.

I totally get how, if you want some fancy bells and whistles that an OS doesn't come with, that you might have to install something. But to just upload a file into the cloud where you can then get to it from somewhere else?!? Why would it need to install crapware? And to add insult to injury, it would crash my machine (and not much would crash macOS), so I had to manually clean its crapware off of my system. Fortunately, I've been working in software for 45 years, so I could scrape this off my windshield and get on with life.

I have no idea why anyone likes Dropbox. It is terribly invasive to one's operating environment, with very little to show for that invasiveness other than slow-downs, crashes, weird error messages, and (one can assume) security issues. The pricing for such a basic service was always a complete non-starter for anyone who knew anything about computers. And as a company/service/product, it made an immediate beeline for the enshitification awards.

It does seem like something that Y Combinator incubator would produce, which is a pretty big insult in my world.

Yes, as an American, winning would be a great change. Over just the past year and a half, we've lost the work and investment of multiple generations. Rebuilding our alliances, our educational institutions, our scientific infrastructure, the rule of law, the trust in our public institutions, etc. will now be the work of several generations to come. And given how much inertia we've discarded, and how much momentum we've transferred to countries such as China, I'm not sure that America will ever be able to recover its position of leadership.

But I assume that the point that you're trying to make is that my strong opposition to ignorant, corrupt, and incompetent leadership is only going to help the ignorant, corrupt, and incompetent movement to continue to amass power. If that is indeed the case, then we are all doomed.
