If people want to speculate on the short term swings in stocks then God bless them. A more volatile stock market just creates opportunities for long term investors to be able to buy investments when the price is right. Their commissions keep people employed no differently than purchases from Amazon or a local business. For anyone investing for retirement or any other long term goal short term swings have zero impact to us achieving our investment objectives 10+ years down the road.

H-1B visa admissions should be tied to what we are lacking in talent in the US. At my company we are required to post applications along with salary info publicly for any position we are looking at H-1B candidates. We have developer positions, read non-management, that pay 150k to 180k. I interpret this as we are in short supply of this type of talent.

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Good Subscription based solution for comp tech support

byrddtrader writes: My parents are getting close to the their 70's and neither one of them are particularly tech savvy. Since my teenage years I have been tech support for the family, but now that I am older I can not be at their beckon call every time they inadvertently download something they should not, or the printer stops working. Given the amount of time that I have worked with them I don't feel that it is realistic that I will be able to convey the information they need to become self sufficient. What I am looking for is a service that will be able to assist with any software PC related issues, viruses, printers and the like. Currently they are using a tech firm out of India iYogi that does unlimited support for a few hundred per year per machine which is fine though they are big on the up sell. They tend to push their own virus protection software, and attempted to sell my Dad who has 500Mb of documents a 3Tb external hard drive because they said he needed it. Currently the computers they use are ones I have built. Maybe the best solution would be store bought PCs that offered additional tech support at a price. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The different political parties can be put on a simple line, on one end you have anarchy(right), on the other you have total government control (left). A democratic socialist is just further to the left on that spectrum than a democrat. Fortune ran a article that estimated Bernie's policy proposals would cost 19 trillion dollars over 10 years (google "estimating Bernie sanders policy cost") in addition to our current budget which is running at a deficit already. What he is proposing sounds great to a lot of people but it seems disingenuous to campaign giving away a bunch of free stuff to people that will not get the bill for it. On another point he proposes that the top tax rate should be 90%, even that this rate he would not bring in enough extra revenue to pay for his 19T in extra spending. Taxing the rich sounds great if you are not rich but its not the panacea to cure all our budgetary ills.
