I have never understood how this was ever legal in the first place

Back in the 2000s, I remember Apple asking people to âoebuyâ a feature from the Apple Store for $0, to unlock extra functionality for the iPod. The reasoning was that they cant just change the product that they have sold.

At the bare minimum, a product should do what it says on the box. If online play is part of the game, then it should remain active, as long as people want to play.

Glad that lawmakers are taking this issue up.

Comment Engage passively (Score 1) 20

Social media can also be used passively. One can just scroll through, look at some memes and ignore any hate you get.

It only starts to become a problem when people create content. Such as sharing a post or comment, and then obsess over the reactions of others.

Basically looking for validation from others is going to cause problems. Especially online, due to the lack of real world cues & hints

The answer is simple. Remain passive or learn to ignore most people

This is one problem with locking down the OS. With enough motivation, hackers are able to find ways to get around the security to access the deep system layers. However, users and legitimate apps are locked out and must rely on the OS provided APIs and tools.

This creates an imbalance in the security of the OS. A power user can't launch a root terminal and just take a look at what's going on. They are bound by the OS level sandbox, and can only access so much of the system. Which also means that any user level security solutions are mostly useless, and one must rely on the OS to keep attackers out

Microsoft doesnt have a Windows 11 problem. What they have is a management and a leadership problem.

Every opportunity of the last 30 gears has been destroyed and squandered by Microsoft. XBox being the latest victim.

Drastic changes are needed in the leadership coz the current ones have no idea what they are doing

The article talks about some specialist components. I assume these are ones that are high value and need special authorization to purchase. Like high-accuracy GPS chips or stuff for nuclear centrifuges etc.

Surely law enforcement can start going down the list of purchasers to see what is going on.

For consumer level stuff like Intel CPUs, or Nvidia GPUs, there probably is no real way to stop that. The volumes are just too high. But for low volume, high-value specialist components it should be possible to have some control.
