Journal btlzu2's Journal: Ambition makes you look pretty ugly... 23

It's completely unfounded, but every time I see a picture of the new pope, I see evil. I don't understand it. He's probably a really sweet guy. Honest.

He just scares the bejesus outta me for some reason. What's goin' on in that head of yours pope old pal? :)

    • Well, he was a member of the Hitler Youth in nazi Germany.

My Irish-Catholic friend's first words when I told him Ratzinger was the new Pope was, "Damn. A german pope? It's a bad day to be a jew..." :)

      • Man, that's hardly fair. Membership in the Hitler Youth was mandatory for all males his age at the time.

He actually has a pretty good record in Jewish/Catholic relations, and was closely involved in and encouraged JP II's rapproachment with the Jewish community. But, I think it's more instructive to check out the positive responses to his election from the Jewish ADL and e.g. in the Jerusalem Post.

If there was reason to be worried I think they'd tend to be on top of things.
  • Here's what I've been doing at the office:

Announce - This is the new Pope's inaugeration ...

Start humming the "Empire Strikes Back" Storm-troopers theme ... Dum dum dum ..du-du-dum du-d-uh-dumm ...

Do the goose-step, say "This is the processional." Stop. Stamp feet together, click heels, give nazi salute.

Announce - "the pope comes out to address the people"

(Imitate Darth Vader) "People -" gasp snort breathe out - " I am " gasp snort breathe out " YOUR FATHER!"

Try it - it works. Cracks 'em up every t

Now if I can just get the little voice inside my head to stop saying: "... I've got a bad feeling about this ..."

  • The guy creeps me out. I'm glad I'm not Catholic.
    • Damn straight he look screepy! (Is that some damn Australian slang?) (yeah, it's stupid to point out goofy little typos, but this one was fun man. Gimme a break you ozzie beeyotch!)
      • Don't hassle me man. It's early! (Checks watch, realise I never wear at watch, checks clock on the wall... yeah, 1:55 is early. My brain has barely woken up. (Even though I've been sitting here at work for the past 4 hours or so...))

        <sigh />

Normally I pick up those typos before I hit submit...
        • Oh boohoo. You're on the downside of work and you're whining???? I have to wake up and face this shit in 5 hours and I'm here replying to you my upside-down friend. I bet you're actually almost outta there now....

          You screepy. I swear! :)
          • Bah! I still got a good three hours or so chained to my desk. At least I am finally fully awake and my hunger is sated. (Subway - 6inch vege delite. Yum!)

            Sleep well Smoochy. ;-)

  • It's the sunken eyes I think. Makes it hard to read the expression in them.
    • Obviously, it isn't a beauty contest and his actions/words will mean a whole lot more. But he's still spooky to me. John Paul II actually looked angelic.
  • ...if you were to visit this site [cnn.com], your wayward soul could be redeemed. Perhaps for a nice bag of road salt.

Of course, I'll be busy trying to get my first misreading of that headline out of my head.
