Journal bmetzler's Journal: The Kerry Whitewash? 12

The Washington Post is reporting that Kerry might have trouble attracting minority voters because President Bush's administration is more diverse at senior levels than John Kerry's be likely to put together.

In the last couple of weeks, several news reports have examined this subject, beginning with CNN's Carlos Watson, who wrote on CNN.com recently that "this year President Bush may argue that his administration is more diverse at senior levels than John Kerry's would be." Last weekend, The Washington Post's Colbert I. King wrote in his column that Kerry "has an innermost circle of advisers that is practically as white as the driven snow." The Associated Press also moved a story on the wires Thursday about the perceived lack of color at the top of the Kerry campaign.

The AP story quoted, among others, Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) saying: "I am concerned about diversity, but more importantly I am concerned about the experience in that diversity -- senior policy people who know people from one end of the country to the other...The senator should remedy this very quickly."

Will this be a stumbling block for Kerry? Will minority voters vote for a party candidate they historical support who has a overtly white potential candidate over a President who has already proven that he supports a wide range of diversity in his cabinet?

    Is that a rhetorical question?

      I believe that the Democrats are going to be in for a surprise this November. Seeing at least the Hispanic enthusiasm for Bush, at least around here, is overwhelming. I don't think that the Democrats will be able to count on minorities to step in line and pull the

      • Minorities tend to vote their economic condition [dailytexanonline.com] as much if not more than whites. Check out the Conference Board's Present Situation Index [pollingreport.com]:

        1985 = 100
        2000 = 180
        today = 90.6

        Those 2 million that had jobs four years ago aren't going to stay home and twiddle their thumbs in November.

        • You're missing something: If we keep gaining jobs like we did in March, every one of those jobs will be back by November.
          • You're on the fast track to being a FAILURE. Are you FUCKING dreaming? What new jobs? Specifically what new jobs that are helping out minorities? OK... so a few upper managment positions opened up in a few locations across the country and a bunch of rich white guys got them. You call that growth? You stupid bastard! Trust me, come November, there are going to be a lot of mintories who are hard up for work that they can actually live on (not the Walmart shit that gets thrown their way). And they will
  • In my defense, I would like to say that I and my colleagues have plenty of race relation ties. Why, I have friends like Robert Byrd [thefreedictionary.com] who has had many dealing with black folks. And look at Bush's whitehouse... Its WHITE! What kind of racism is that? On top of that, consider Colin Powell^W^WCondelisa Rice^W^W... skip that. What about him not wanting to unfairly give help to minority students who cannot perform to get into college in Michigan? See, he must be racist.
  • His wife's fortune. It makes Kerry appear to not be a man of the people when you realize he is worth millions. Just goes to prove that money can buy power.

    Sure Jesse. That's why the democrats are stonewalling Bush's judicial nominees, right? Because they're not qualified? Oh wait, there was that memo leaked that they must be stopped simply because they were minorities.

    Forget it, Jesse - we know, and most of us have known for a long time, the democratic party leadership
  • My wife was active with the College Republican club on her campus. During one of the campaigns, the Democratic candidate for the local House seat was arrested for battering his wife. The College Republicans asked the Women's Forum to withdraw their endorsement of the Democratic candidate and instead endorse the Republican.

    They were told, "Democrats traditional support women's issues, so we will continue to support the Democratic candidate."

    Yes, you read that right. The Women's Forum chose to support
