Journal bmetzler's Journal: Partial Birth Abortion Ban is now Law 29

America stands for liberty, for the pursuit of happiness and for the unalienable right of life. And the most basic duty of government is to defend the life of the innocent. Every person, however frail or vulnerable, has a place and a purpose in this world. Every person has a special dignity. This right to life cannot be granted or denied by government, because it does not come from government, it comes from the Creator of life.

Partial Birth Abortion Ban is now Law

  • And a Judge in Nebraska has shut it down for now. The other Judges could ignore this action, but they probably won't.
  • Without sarcasm or bias, I have a couple of not-so-simple questions to ask:

What do Pro-Life organizations specifically do to protect already born children? More specifically, what do the organizations (who vehemently oppose abortion) do to: improve the living conditions of children in places like

rural Kentucky, West Virginia, or Tennessee

    reservations in South Dakota

urban areas like South Chicago, South Central LA, or Oakland?

What are these organizations doing to make schools safer for kids? Open mor

    • If I knew your political slant better, I would say you are a pro-lifer setting up a strawman for others to beat down in amusement.

Your question makes as much sense as asking, "What do the Free Kevin do to help other people in prison serving time for crimes they are guilty of?" Just because you align yourself with one political group does not prevent you from working with others causes.

Here are a couple examples of people I know who work within the pro-life community.

FYI: I tend to slant Left of center.
        • I guessed that, either way, your comment was quite the strawman. I chuckle at ceejayoz's repsonse thinking he was supporting such a great argument.
      • I asked my question with an ulterior motive in mind and that is: if the Pro-Life / Anti-Abortion movement is one day successful, it is very likely that this country will have an additional 50,000 to 100,000 children per year to support.

So, again I ask, how do Pro-Life / Anti-Abortion organizations support living children right now? Because if they are successful in banning abortion, there will very likely be thousands of children requiring special assistance and services.

Please note: I am in NO WAY debati
        • I understand. I saw your loaded question (hence the comment, if I knew your political slant and calling it a strawman).

I gave examples of what pro-lifers do to help children already in a previous post. So, yes children are taken care of the best we can. You can ignore that post, or understand that those who are prolife truly do more than just care about the children, they actively support children that they work to save.

          • I appreciated your response and I know what people do on a personal level. I know that there are hundreds of thousands of people that work everyday to make a child's life better.

I don't deny that at all.

But, what the individual does is not related to my question. I am speaking specifically to orgainzations as a whole (e.g. Operation Rescue). And I am curious as to what these organziations will do / can do if they are ultimately successful?

It's not fair to put you on the spot, as you don't speak for the
            • Ah, I see now.

Truth to tell though, I see no better way (if you do not have money growing on your trees) to help these children than a personal way. Adoption (IMHO) is far better than leaving it to a group or organization to provide for children, because it gives the child what they need most, parents.

Other than that, there are many organizations that you can volunteer time at also. Locally in GR, MI we have a number of missions in the downtown area for local work. Goodwill and such organizations are a
    • Amen. The people who try to forbid abortions are often the same ones who tell single welfare moms to "get a fucking job" instead of taking care of their kids.
      • Ehh, saying that has about as much a shot of converting anyone in anyway to your point of view as shoving a Coultier piece into the hands of a liberal has of turning them conservative.
    • Well, they would probably start with "being alive is better than being dead" and work from there....perhaps pointing out that being dead is the entirely worst living condition that one might need to be protected from....Perhaps they would ask the Kentucky/West Viginia/Tennessee/South Dakota/"generic urban area" kids if they feel they would be happier dead?

Just throwing out a few ideas, off the top of my head.

  • This right to life cannot be granted or denied by government, because it does not come from government, it comes from the Creator of life.

Creator of life? That would be the parents. People are free to believe different. Using that different belief as a political argument is a shitty way of running a government, though.

    • Especially since the fetuses aren't alive...

      • Why do you say that?
        • Well duh, they are made out of plastic waiting for the Tinkerbell to come over and sprinkel them with fairy dust so they become real boys and girls.
        • As the purpose of life is independence, life does not begin until a modicum of independence is demonstrated, i.e., when the umbilical cord is cut.

          • Are people who are dependent on insulin alive? After all, the would die with out it.

Also, having several childern I happen to know it takes some years before a child can be considered even partically independent.

excuse the typos, it is rather hard to type with a child in your lap.
            • For me the threshold is not being entirely dependent on another human for every need (breathing, feeding, etc.). One who is on insulin is dependent on a substance which they could conceivably harvest and inject themselves.

A young child has demonstrated that they can breathe, etc. on their own (barring whether they're in a respirator, in which case I think it should be acceptable for the parents to simply say, "pull the plug... the kid's not getting better").

Good. One step closer to barring another form of murder.

They just need to outlaw all abortions, unless the birth will have a direct physical impact, effecting immediate death to the mother.
    • Good. One step closer to barring another form of murder.

Then blame God, for he has killed far more of his children than any would-be mother or abortion doctor.

I'll agree with the religious types that abortion should be banned when the bible gets revised to show that God killing off all those people for the greater good is removed.
