Journal bethanie's Journal: One *last* note before I go 12
Texas was one of only four states -- Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri are the others -- to apply a criminal sodomy law exclusively to same-sex partners. An additional nine states -- Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia -- have criminal sodomy laws on their books that in theory, if not in practice, apply to opposite-sex couples as well. As a result of the majority's broad declaration today that the government cannot make this kind of private sexual choice a crime, all those laws are now invalid.
WOW! I never realized how many laws I had violated (assuming these are blanket laws covering both sodomy and oral sex)!! Let's count, shall we? Louisiana and Florida? Definitely!! North Carolina? Yup, there, too. Virginia? Probably -- took a vacation there a few years back. Can't remember details, but in all likelihood, that'd be a big AFFIRMATIVE. If the damn Texas law didn't apply to just gays (lucky bastards), I'd qualify there, too! *sigh* Went through Utah on the way back to college one summer with an old BF. If only we had decided to stop instead of pushing through to Grand Junction for the evening...
What a fun vacation theme that would have been -- to violate the anti-sex laws in every state that had them on the books. Oh well. I guess it's too late now. Everything's all LEGAL. Somehow, going for violations of, say, assisted suicide laws just doesn't seem as tempting.
Anyone else have suggestions of fun projects/theme vacations that can compensate for the loss of this one?

I think you violated their laws by virtue of traveling not only without a male relative, but with a man who you were clearly not related to!
Okay, I'm going to stop making fun of Utah now. It's too easy, and I know that there is a least one member of the community who lives there. Though, that's never stopped me before.

Thanks to this news, Sunday's Pride festival will be all the better. What disturbs me is that those laws were passed in the first place.. I guess we can thank the Puritans for that.
