* People don't have expectations about what should work on their tablets. They aren't going to be all, "But what about Excel on my Tablet!"

Unfortunately this is just not true. A lot of end users are frustrated that they cannot use all the apps from the iPhone on their Android device. They may have different expectations now in terms of what will be on a PC or Tablet, but there are definitely still expectations and assumptions made for each platform.

The Scouring of the Shire was actually one of my favourite parts of Return of the King. The final battle felt really overstretched, like Tolkien was having trouble keeping track of his characters by that point, and it was good to return to a more well constructed chapter. It also resolves the character arcs for Saruman and Wormtongue - something the movie (even the extended edition) failed to do. I would definitely have been happier to see that as the finale rather than twenty minutes of 'everyone gets old and gets on a boat'.

Do these figures include monitors, projectors and other 'dumb' screens? I have a media centre hooked up to an '07 TV - haven't used any channel other than HDMI input on that for ages. The 'TV' they talk of is becoming little more than another display device, fed by a set-top box or PC/laptop.

Submission + - Steve Jobs Wanted An iPhone-Only Wireless Network (itworld.com)

jfruhlinger writes: "One of the more profound ways that the iPhone changed the mobile industry was the fact that it upended the relationship between the handset maker and the wireless carrier: Apple sells many of its phones directly to customers, and in general has much more of an upper hand with carriers than most phone manufacturers. But venture capitalist John Stanton, who was friends with Steve Jobs in the years when the iPhone was in development, said the Apple CEO's initial vision was even more radical: he wanted Apple to build its own wireless network using unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum, thus bypassing the carriers altogether."
