Journal Journal: taking pictures with a Google Desktop gadget

Just finished this gadget: nocorras.gg.

It allows to take a picture with your webcam and store it in a remote server for persistence and shared access. Some ironing is in process: basically to allow for webcam selection, offline work, and some adjustment of clicks. But it is fully functional, so if you have installed google desktop and you have a webcam plugged in, I am really interested on having your feedback.

Journal Journal: Facebook failure means no e-tap day for secret societies

My understanding, as foreigner, of the network of USA Fraternities_and_sororities and (see List_of_) collegiate_secret_societies is that some people enters the fresher ones as a way to get visibility, so carving a path into the senior ones. In this ambiance one of the initial goals of Facebook was to give an alternate way to visibility, the web-2.0ish-way. It could even be claimed to be the boldest revolution in tap days after the feminine tapping in the nineties.

Now, the opening of Facebook last year and the ulterior unusability of the whole social network due to application spam has surely sabotaged the operation.

Has it been an internal sabotage, from the own founder, because he considered he was not getting enough reward from his own visibility? Is it a revenge of computer engineers, who have their own plans for world dominance going beyond the old good Skull & Bones methodology?

During the opening of Facebook protest groups reached about 15000 members.

Journal Journal: Light Pen emulation using IR port?

I was thinking... now that we have got a god bunch of PDAs using Linux (discard Nokia 770, which hasn't got a IR port) Can we use the IR diode in the box to emulate an old fashionated Light Pen? I mean, is it fast enough to detect the CRT scan? It could be sincronised by averaging or some clever trick so it does not need to read the crt sync signals, or lacking this it could receive them via USB, timestamped.

It could do for funny user interfaces. By example, you could grab the information inside a window into your pda by simply touching this window with the pda.
