New Zealand Reintroduces 3 Strikes Law 165

An anonymous reader writes "The New Zealand government has reintroduced a newly rewritten addition to the Copyright Act which will allow rights' holders to send copyright notices to ISPs, and force them to pass them on to account holders. Section 92A of the Copyright Act will allow rights holders to take people who have been identified as infringers more than three times in front of a Copyright Tribunal. This law will allow the Copyright Tribunal to hand down either a $15,000 fine or six months internet disconnection. The law specifies that the account holder himself is responsible for what is downloaded via the account, and doesn't make allowances for identifying the actual copyright infringer if there are multiple computers tied to an account."

goombah99 writes: Netcraft is showing a very hard to explain event happened in the Ohio 2006 election. The Secretary Of states website IP address, which normally is directed to an Ohio based IP address and handles all the election reporting, was transferred on election night to the Smarttech Corp owned servers out of state. According to the American Registry on Internet Numbers Smartech's block of IP address 64.203.96.0 — 64.203.111.255 encompasses the entire range of addresses owned by the Republican National Committee. This includes hosting the recently notorious gbw43.com used in the Whitehouse. Can Slashdotters suggest any good explanations for this seemingly dubious transfer?

It is interesting to have a look at what these guys want back... So far the Tribune has only touched the surface of these documents.

Included in the set of links at the Bev Harris story linked in the original post is a particularly damning memo

Unfortunately you can't cut and paste the content out of these memos - it turns to garbage... but this one deals with advice to Diebold on how to deal with the State of California's request to produce documents.

It is more than clear from this document that Diebold's lawyers were doing all they could to obstruct this discovery process. The memo states among other things that they want to figure out what the state already has via the original FTP site screw up so as not to get caught out.

They also talk about the "smoking gun" request, opining that their client "may need to obtain emails, if possible, regarding state certification of uncertified software. We need to devise a plan to locate responsive documents to this request."

What do you reckon this means...
