Problems with Debian's non-standard version of Firefox already exist.
The ColorZilla extension doesn't work with Debian's Firefox, but does with Mozilla's Firefox. The guy who wrote ColorZilla has extra support issues as a result. One advantage of Debian calling their non-standard version something else is that it'll help reduce the support issues for extension authors.
