Why don't competent UI/UX designers feel compelled to contribute to open-source projects?

Is it because UI/UX designers are universally a bunch of assholes? (unlikely)
Is it because UI/UX naturally evolves as a secondary concern to software development? (possibly)
Is it because the types that initiate/maintain open-source projects generally consider UI/UX to be of lesser importance? (now we're getting somewhere)

Thats probably why (as a general rule) server side open-source projects are more successful.

there are undoubtedly orders of magnitude more content creators in existence today - only the proportion of the whole has changed.

modern computing has made machines that are easier to use and more accessible to the masses but these 'masses' were never going to be content creators anyway.

i really dont understand one element of this plan - what is the benefit of privatising the company 5 years after completetion?

while the company is publicly owned the government can ensure the wholesale pricing to retailers (ISPs) remains reasonable. as soon as we sell the company arent we back in the same screwed situation we currently have with telstra?

am i missing something?

it never ceases to amazes me the number of replies which just plain dont answer the question.

the dude asked how he can optimise his existing wireless solution - not whether he should buy new wireless hardware or switch to a wired network.

(clearly im not answering the question either... but at least im not karma whoring and trying to pose as an answer)
