Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Screenless, keyboardless, portable, battery powered computer? 13

Wycliffe writes: So I have a travel keyboard that I love. I can carry my OS on a usb flash drive. There are several options for portable battery powered monitors. The only thing I'm missing to have a completely modular laptop is the CPU/MB/RAM. I've thought about buying a small box like a zotac and trying to replace the harddrive with a battery but does anything like this already exist? Or does there exist a good x86/x64 tablet that I can install linux on? I can get a laptop but it seems silly to carry around a laptop with a keyboard when I never use the keyboard. I don't need a long battery life, if I need more than an hour then I can find somewhere to plug it in. Also, are there any systems like this with decent specs? Most stuff I see like the intel compute stick are horribly underpowered compared to a decent laptop.

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Economical lego compatible 3d printer. 1

Wycliffe writes: There are plenty of high end 3d printers which allow high precision and large prints. There are also plenty of economical 3d printers but most of them don't have high enough precision for printing good lego pieces. What is a good economical printer for printing small lego pieces? Build size is not important as most lego pieces are tiny but precision and quality prints are very important. What is a good, cheap 3D printer that can reliably print tiny lego pieces? What is the best bang for the buck when you want a small printer and don't care about large prints?

Submission + - What non-lethal technology has the best chance of replacing the gun? 1

Wycliffe writes: Most cops are not out to kill someone but when someone reaches for a cellphone or their glovebox, the cop assumes the worst and goes to protect themself from dying. Guns are used to immobilize the target and are not really even that good at it when that person is charging. What other potential devices could be used to protect a cop so that guns are unnecessary? Foam? Lightweight body armour? Nets? Robots? "Mantis" paralysingly gas? Force field? What non-lethal technology out there has the best potential to be MORE effective at immobilizing a target and/or protecting a cop than a gun?

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Best software for image organization? 1

Wycliffe writes: Like many people, I am starting to get a huge collection of digital photos from family vacations, etc... I am looking for some software that allows me to rate/tag my own photos in a quick way. I really don't want to spend the time tagging a bunch of photos and then be locked into a single piece of software so what is the best software to help organize and tag photos so that I can quickly find highlights without being locked into that software for life. I would prefer open source to prevent lock-in and also prefer linux but could do windows if necessary.
