Journal WannaBeGeekGirl's Journal: Why I don't watch the "news" 6

Someone sent me a link to this article about Rachael Ray, donuts, fashion and jihad.

I think I know the commercial that the article refers to. It was so bizarre to me that I didn't notice she was in it, let alone stop to critique her outfit. Eating food that was cooked by a group of welders just seemed unsavory and my brain tuned the rest out.

Much like how I was reading this article and saw Fox news was involved and stopped reading the rest of it.

This amount of irony is outstanding here when there are interesting, important, informative, and humanitarian issues to be addressed.

I will sleep better tonight knowing that my co-workers' donuts are not supporting extremist fashion according to some guy at Fox news. Unfortunately, Rachael Ray's styling consultant is most likely unemployed now due to a "wardrobe malfunction". Hopefully someone has a spare "Save Paris" tee-shirt she can borrow.

Why I don't watch the "news"

  • This has very little to do with Fox; the same sort of thing is going on all over the place. It reminds me of the guy in Washington, DC who was forced to resign because he used the word "niggardly" in its proper sense (miserly). I think that he was a deputy mayor. All kinds of people are being raked over the coals for small slips, things that have nothing to do with their ability to do their jobs.

I don't think that it's about people being offended, though that is the ostensible motivation. I think that i
    • "blogosphere" =) I still laugh when I say that word out loud, even though I'm a total geek. That reminds me, i just read an xkcd that used that term! [xkcd.com]

Where would i be without the little things in life that amuse me so easily and make me laugh?
    • Seriously though, I imagine that this type of thing happens often and not just Fox is involved. They are just easy to take a pot shot at because I'm hardly perfect and find myself full of my own righteous indignation too.

I can't completely imagine how ugly things are in the media with the US primaries, 2 wars and the tragedy in Burma going on. Because of my health, I seriously do avoid the news and a lot of media in general except through a carefully filtered medium to stay informed on a primitive level
      • I read an article that talk shows known for stimulating controversy and encouraging the audience to cheer for it were going to have a huge impact on society.

        Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!
    • t is particularly driven by the indignation-fueled self-righteousness that seems to be a defining characteristic of the "blogosphere"

Damning an entire group because of one crazy bitch [michellemalkin.com] is pretty stupid. I read dozens of blogs a day containing reasoned, thoughtful or fun prose. The "blogosphere", like anything else, is what you make it.

Also, to be fair, it's mostly the conservative blogs that get their tits in a twist over insignificant stuff like what kind of fashion accessories you like to wear. M
      • Wow. I just wasted about 5 minutes of my life on her site that I won't get back. It reminds me of Ann C. mentality: "let's go backwards and see if it takes us forward" to put it in a non-crass way.

I guess the blogs I read most and give credence to tend to be more of the type that don't come with a fancy logo, and staff of "fashion police". Not that fancy blogs can't or aren't credible. I just haven't gotten use to that kind of extremism tailor (no pun intended) made for my browser.

        I suppose that
