Comment Re:Non-Notable (Score 1) 138

Did you even read the page you linked? Wikipedia's notability policy is simply "A thing is notable if and only if you can provide citations that make us think you're not just making shit up." The requirements of the journalism assignment were explicitly that the articles should be well researched, so if a student produces an article that doesn't satisfy that policy, they should fail the class.

Sure, somebody might keep track of you on the internet for six months and steal your TV. Somebody could also drive by your house every so often and do the same thing. Is it worth it to censor your entire life to cower from burglers? Life is hard, take some risks and have some fun. Social networking is fun. You can buy a new TV, you can't buy back having wasted your life hiding.

Weta Builds Mermaid Suit For Amputee 2

Nadya Vessey's legs were amputated below the knee due to illness when she was young. When asked what happened by a child, she responded that she was a mermaid. The mermaid idea stuck in her head, so she wrote to Weta Workshop and asked if they could make her a mermaid tail. To her surprise, they said they'd do it and two years later she has a realistic-looking mermaid tail with an attached suit.

Boy Killed By Exploding Office Chair 35

The Land of Smeg writes "A fourteen-year-old boy was killed after the chair he was sitting on exploded, propelling sharp chairs parts into his rectum, resulting in extensive bleeding, to which he succumbed before medical attention could stem the flow. The chair in question was a standard gas cylinder type, where the height is regulated by an adjustable cylinder containing highly pressurized gas, and it was this which exploded, sending high velocity chair parts into the posterior of the unfortunate youth."

Europa Selected As Target of Next Flagship Mission 168

volcanopele writes "NASA and the European Space Agency announced today that they have selected the Europa/Jupiter System Mission as the next large mission to the outer solar system. For the last year, the Europa mission has been in competition with a proposal to send a mission to Saturn's moon Titan, as reported on Slashdot earlier. The Europa Mission includes two orbiters: one developed by NASA to orbit the icy moon Europa and another developed by ESA to orbit the solar system's largest moon, Ganymede. Both orbiters would spend up to 2.5 years in orbit around Jupiter before settling into orbit around their respective targets, studying Jupiter's satellites, rings, and of course the planet itself. The mission is scheduled to launch in 2020 and arrive at Jupiter in 2025 and 2026."

Toothy Racoon Bit Off Manhood 13

Ian-K writes "The Sun has a story about a man lost his 'tool' while trying to rape a raccoon. An observant reader over at ATS pointed out that luckily it wasn't a squirrel, or he may have also lost his nuts." I hope he can make something positive out of this experience, like talking at schools to warn kids about the dangers of oral sex with a raccoon.

As one of the first-time voters in this election that helped elect President Obama, I actually broke down and cried during his inaugural speech when we were watching the news coverage today in class. I have never been so happy after an election, especially one in which I played (or at least feel as though I played) such an important part.
