Submission + - Firefox is going to be renamed in Debian.
Viraptor writes: Debian is ready to change the name of Firefox in it's distributions. They say it can be done in a week from now. Reasons are: logo and name trademark and patches. Debian doesn't want to accept the original fox&globe logo, as it's trademarked, so they don't see it as really "free" to use. On the other hand Mozilla doesn't want Firefox distributed under that name, if it lacks logo — because the logo is what original Firefox should include. They also want Debian patches to be submited to them, before distribution and that's what others are already doing for some time (Red Hat and Novell for 1.0 and 1.5 versions). But others say, that this will slow down development and releases, if distribution-specific patches have to be checked and accepted first.
Mixing these problems with strict rules of including only "really free" packages in main Debian repositories and similar distributions we'll surely see hear some more about this story.
