Spoiler bits... I didn't know anything about the story apart from it was by Andy Weir, and that it had the premise that life on Earth was under threat from something. No-one warned me it wasn't a serious movie, which I assumed it was, given the above. I wish I had known this and I would have viewed it differently.
So I was a bit nonplussed at it being somewhat corny: The alien goes "Rocky! and not the movie!" amongst the things it has learned from Gosling. The religiosity bit with "Do you believe in God" was unneeded, as was the female scientist karioke singing. 15 minutes to half an hour could have been cut as it is a long movie. All in all, it was just ...so american.

Powershell was well, powerful but the one thing that really annoyed the crap out of me was the ridiculous error verbosity. A syntax error generated, what, SEVEN lines of output?!
It could have taken a lesson from VAX/VMS DCL error messages which were configurable verbosity.

As an Australian I've not been to the States since the mid 60s so I expect it's changed a bit since then.

A short while ago it was proposed that blasting a bazillion bits of iron oxide dust into Mars atmosphere would raise the temperature, a step on the way to terraforming that planet.
But doing the same thing here except with diamond would apparently cool the Earth instead?

I would have imagined 25 to 50 percent. Seems they are getting off pretty darn lightly to me.

Looking at a photos of the IM-1 inside the fairing it seems the pads were quite small, and sharp edged. Perhaps the notion of having 6 legs led to a false sense of security in tipping, but if the pad's small has little of a raised edge it could well dig in with a bit of horizontal drift.
But of course it's so easy to argue about this now. They did very very well and I would not be surprised if their next one in a few months had redesigned pads.
