Wireless Networking

Journal TopShelf's Journal: Free at last, free at last.... (from wires, that is) 1

Once in a while we need to appreciate the honest-to-goodness improvements in lifestyle that are offered by technology. I recently caught up with the trailing edge of wireless networking by adding an 802.11b router to my cable modem setup, so now I can use my work laptop at home to surf the net while downstairs watching the kids. Got a good deal, too - after rebate, the router and USB adapter only ran $40 total.

The problem is, now it's hard to get time on it - the wife loves to sit on the couch and check email, her sister comes over to surf in the kitchen, etc. No longer does someone have to disappear upstairs to check on something. Combine that with the fact that we got a Tivo not too long ago, and life has indeed improved over the last year...

By the way, does anybody know if the Tivo can be hooked up to the wireless home network? It does have USB ports on the back, and it would be cool to store off programs to CD/DVD rather than keep them on the Tivo.

  • Yep, you can hook up your Tivo to your Wireless network. There are a couple of options, depending on the type of Tivo that you have (series 1 vs. series 2) Best place to start is Tivo Community
