I haven't written here in a while. For the most part I'm writing in my Blog.
I graduated from the Berklee College of Music last year (2006).
I am now working as office manager for Jazkarta, a Plone consulting firm based in Cambridge MA. It's a great job and I'm really enjoying it. We are located in the Betahouse, a loft style shared office space that has been featured in the Boston Globe recently.

There seem to be two camps when it comes to computing and technology in general.
1) Those who want something new and better daily
2) Those who whine when something new comes out because all of a sudden what they purchased isn't the best.

STOP IT!
Technology companies aren't putting out 'too many updates'. I have seen too many people whining on Apple forums about this. 'Oh they are putting out too many products, i can't afford them all.'
Oh well. We can't have it both ways. I personally welcome frequent upgrades and i'm more than happy without having the newest (and buggiest) car, wireless, computer, technology stuff..

It all keeps the market fluid so that prices DO drop. Look at stuff like Digidesign's Protools. They put out major platform upgrades every 4-5 years it seems. The prices stay really high. iPods on the other hand drop in price because well, they are small/breakable and there are new ones every year or less.

Ok. So this really pisses me off.
In short, Walmart has decieded to not allow 'racy' men's magazines to be sold there. Not that I shop Walmart for men's magazines.... WTF?

I have two problems with this. For one thing, what is Walmart's deal with censoring things. They sell guns at some Walmarts- but yet found Nirvana's In Utereo CD offensive because of 'Rape Me'?
They act like they are the voice of God and everything moral in the US. Where do they get it that they need to censor what they have in a store, when it's nothing that needs to be censored, but yet- they carry the Bible, which has some pretty racy stuff in it. Blowing up cities with trumpets (Terrorism), Crucifying people (toruturing jews?), a hating gays, people not wearing underwear and just wearing robes, prositutes, and shit like putting people in lion dens?
Ok, that's a little extreme, but Walmart is just too fucking consevative.

My other rant, is that about women's magazines. So Cosmo gets to stay? "50 ways to make your man say ah....", "Fake an orgasim today", "Larger Breasts Now", "Lose 10 pounds in 1 day" (amputate you own arm for that one). BTW, why is it that we always hear of men having to amputate body parts when they get stuck in the woods, and women's bodies being found dead under rocks... I thought they had a higher threshold for pain or something. Anyway. So why do the women's magazines get to rule, when Maxim gets kicked out?

Seriously... I wonder sometimes. What the fuck is wrong with me. I have stopped playing games and wasting my time like that, but now- I read about 5 web pages non stop just wanting more information all the time. I used to read books nonstop, but I just haven't found one recently that trapped me asides from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and the Harry Potter series. I mean I used to read like a book ever other day, and these were 800 page books!

Now I read www.slashdot.org, www.cnn.com, www.harmony-central.com, http://duc.digidesign.com and Tomshardware nonstop. I don't know if it's filling some insecurity in my life or what. I also check my email way too much, but never get anything important. I also check in on friend's journals (Hi Stella!) a good bit.

It just seems like something is off in my life. I want to get things back on track, I know there's things that I need to do. Get a job, get some scholoarships, study, etc... I am just not doing it. Perhaps I just need to unplug my router for a while or route everything to /dev/null....

I have some sad news. Fred Rogers (Mr Roger's Neighborhood) is dead.
I can't believe it. As a young child, I watched Mr Wizard's Workshop, Reading Rainbow, Mr Roger's Neighborhood, and Sesame Street constantly. I don't think my TV was ever on anything but PBS!
I think this is truely sad, he was so entertaining to children, and to many adults helped make them who they are today.

Ok, so after 20 Sushi rolls, some Pad Thai of my gf's and 4 slices of Sashimi (raw sushi), I decieded to go to my friend's party at Harvard...
All I had to drink were 3 shots Vanilla Vodka, and a Sex on the Beach.
30 minutes later- having a good time talking, etc...
45 minutes later- wondering if I am understandable
1 hour later- Dancing in a large group
1 hour 30 minutes later- hugging to toilet
3 hours later - get to bed, and stop hugging the toilet...
Next morning- still feeling very sick. Threw up again twice. Walked back to Harvard Square, got on Red Line, to Green Line... Fell asleep and felt sick until late monday...

Lesson - Sushi and Alchol don't mix. I have drank far more than that, but never been sick like that EVER!.

We need to make a decision as Americans. The rest of the world should make this decision too, although perhaps not the same one...

We need to make a concious decision about what kind of world or country we want to live in. Do we want to be Safe, but have few rights and liberties? Or do we want to live in a world that's free, and potentially a little dangerous.

Would you rather have all your bank records exposed to the goverment, your phone calls, your travel, who you talk to, and what you read, all scrutinzed for potential crimes- but feel that you are safe...
Or would you rather live in a world that's potentially a little dangerous, but you are your own person- and your personal information is your own, and your business is your own.

Our forefathers have died, and our grandmother cried to give us the freedoms that we have today, but are quickly losing... Would you rather have the potential of dying? Or be free?

We need to make this decision, and let the people choose, because it affects the people- not the government's lives...

Ok, so why in the world can't a student wear a T-Shirt that says that Bush is a Terrorist? Can't people protest war and killing in a peaceful way by wearing something? What's next, no anti-war ribbons? No papers on it? No speach about anti war allowed?

This seriously pisses me off. I think this is in the lawsuit area for discrimination. If you point out certain students, and say that can't wear something, because it expresses their opinion in a valid, way... well, that's just screwed up. They dont' tell the Arab girls they can't wear the funny clothing.

There's so many things that I wanna do in life. Any ideas or suggestions?

Be a major record producer that makes Puffy and George Martin look bad (to see those 2 in the same sentence pains me)

Learn to Sail

Get an old Porchse

Race it on track

Get a PhD in something... or at least an MBA

Learn to Play drums

Own a place on St George's Island

Have a nice guitar collection

spend at least 6 months bumming it in Europe backpacking and staying where I can for as little money as possible

Build my own house

Invent something cool

Have ONE kid

Get a HUGE CD/Record collection

Buy a Library and put all the books in a huge room (a la beauty and the beast)

Have a nice little wine cellar

Yea, it's alot of money things, but some things like backbacking and stuff aren't. Alot of goals, but it's alot to work for. I really wanna be a better cook as well. I love being around people and entertaining. I don't want an expensive car (the old porsches aren't so bad priced, cheaper than most new cars). I don't care about a huge pool, or a Rolex watch. Sure I would like to shop some nice places, but really- it's about having a good time and being able to learn. And if I could ever learn how to program a little better that would be cool too!

Hmm, kinda upset that I didn't get into the MP&E department at Berklee. Kinda sucks. I am gonna go to the department chair and see if I can sqeeze my way into the synth department to get things set straight, and my schedule back on course.

Hey all. If you are moving to Boston and looking for a place to live- I have something for you. I normally hate to advertize stuff online, but I really gotta move.

I have 1 bedroom of a 2 bedroom apartment in Brighton, Mass (right beside Boston) that I need to sublet. Actually, I want to terminate my lease, and transfer it to you!

The place has a Kitchen with new fridge, gas stove, microwave, etc.
The living room is a good size, and we have a couch that we can put in there, but for now it's taken apart and stored. There's a HUGE bathroom. Umm, and then there's your bedroom, which is a good size. I fit alot of stuff into it.

Freshly painted a little over 3 months ago. Good landlord. Laundry in building. Heat and Hot water, and gas, included. It's 700/month for you.

Ok, so Google can indeed suck at times. When I searched Harry Potter MUD, I got nothing really, but after I looked on MUDConnector or whatever, I found like 5. So I guess I don't need to work on one and get sued anyway. :)

So, I have thought that I needed to do two things before I started on a Harry Potter MUD, well actually 3 now that I think of it. The Last being to incorporate in some way to shield myself from British lawsuits :).

Basically, I need to get back on c++ and plan out the game some before I start coding.

One of the problems in the planning is when to place the MUD in the chronology of Harry Potter. I am thinking that if I placed it in the years after Harry Lived, and Harry entered Hogwarts, that would leave room for expansion as the books continue- but not mess with the 'plot' too much. Doing it while harry was in hogwarts would be crazy and next to impossible I am thinking- and after is pointless since I would have to scramble to rewrite everything as soon as book 5 is out.

Of course, you would play as a student in the game. I can't think of any other way to do it, since the whole thing is from that perspective. You could have different races (even though not that many are actually students at hogwarts) such as Human, Giant, Centaur, etc. Might have to do some more thinking here...

For 'Classes' you could have the four schools. Maybe I could introduce even a new 'secret' school at Hogwarts or something. I dunno. Each school would have their own abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Obiviously Slythern and Gryphindor are the most fleshed out so far, but Rowling has left enough for the other two to be filled out well.
