Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Why so many AC posts? 1

ThorGod writes: I've noticed more and more AC posts lately. Their posts tend to be more contentious than logged-in users. That's actually a good reason to filter them, and never read them (unless upvoted by mods). What gives? Are slashdot users being overran by trolls, or are slashdot users afraid to speak their minds?

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Best eReader for scientific journal articles (pdfs)? (nbcnews.com) 1

ThorGod writes: Today, amazon announced the discontinuation of the Kindle DX. I've been using a Kobo ereader for reading journal article PDFs (such as Case and Shiller 2003), but with mixed results. I think it simply doesn't have the screen real estate necessary to read PDFs comfortably. I thought the DX would have, but it's now gone...What do you all suggest? The requirements are: The best experience for reading academic journal articles (PDFs) on an e-ink screen. Anything with an LCD is exempted.

Submission + - save your sperm! sperm in older men show increased genetic variation (bbc.co.uk)

ThorGod writes: "Who knew? It looks like the genetic mutations present in a man's "troops" increases linearly as they age 20 to 40. So bottle up some of your "brew" while you still have the chance! (It's not like it's a bad idea, right?)

Quote: "According to Dr Kari Stefansson, of Decode Genetics, who led the research, the results show it is the age of men, rather than women, that is likely to have an effect on the health of the child."
