I wonder if it's appropriate to make comparisons between Intel and GE. I also worked at Intel and was involved with their focal process. This process was directly adopted from GE, Jack Welch espoused the benefits of laying off the bottom 10% of employees every year. https://www.reuters.com/market... https://news.ycombinator.com/i...

China's current rule can be compared to Mao Zedong's era. During that era they wanted to become the world's largest producer of iron. To achieve that, every school had a smelter in the back. People would be melting their cookware, and anything else they could found. It worked, but at what cost? My point is that the centrally planned economy frequently has these mandates. The quality of the results is probably lacking.

Maybe this automation issue is what is drawing out the UAW strike. It was part of the writer's strike. One of my professors automated a task in a steel plant. Later he went back to see how it was going, and noticed it was still being done by a person. He asked about that, and they said there was nothing wrong with his work, they were just waiting for the union guy to retire.

When the modern gestapo detains you and asks for your papers, the main purpose is to make you feel subservient. From the TSA to the local police to the Feds at the border, they want us to know we are under their control, under their eyes, and well in their reach. Behave or else is the message. And the definition of 'behave' can be changed at their whim.

That's when you need to do this. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/w... Show that you're not feeling subservient, and make them the ones that are uncomfortable.

Billions spent with very little to show for it. In some cases, the market segment didn't go away, it's just that Intel couldn't compete in it.

I think not using the standardized tests is a way to get around the discrimination lawsuits that have been happening lately.

Being admitted to an ivy league school doesn't really change the lifetime outcome of that person

Admitting students of lower ability to an ivy league would actually do them a disservice.
