Journal TechnoLust's Journal: Ok, the 20 things I want... 23

  1. Someone to share this walk with, whether for a few months, or preferably, the rest of my life.
  2. A new job, or for this one to get much better and pay more.
  3. Figure out exactly which of my beliefs have changed and why some of the old ones don't fit anymore.
  4. For this Condo venture to be wildly successful so I can pay off my house and get a new car and new tires for my Eclipse, which I will NOT be selling, but I'll be adding performance mods to instead.
  5. an iPod so I can be cool like everyone else on the dot.
  6. Some really good cans to go with aforementioned iPod because the earbuds that come with it look cheap as hell, and earbuds were uncomfortable even BEFORE I had my tragus pierced.
  7. Everyone to have a break from all the shit we all go through, just a month or so of rest where we can be happy and not deal with the shit we deal with.
  8. No more kidney stones or bee stings ever.
  9. To get Blinder drunk and feed him a steak and some ecstacy, and let him loose with some girls. Just kidding, for him to realize what the rest of us already know, that he's cool and deserves someone to love him.
  10. Japanese tripletts.
  11. Lose about 20 more pounds, and get my muscles toned again, especially in the stomach/waist area.
  12. New clothes after 11, and maybe some before.
  13. Learn another language (like spoken, not programming you geeks.)
  14. A Patched up, ready to hug dragon waiting when I visit Boston.
  15. To see all the other New England /.ers while I'm there, and flirt with Daoine. ;-)
  16. To travel around and see other slashdotters.
  17. More gingerbread squirrels to eat.
  18. To see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.
  19. Find a MASSIVE New Years Eve party and get crunk.
  20. Sterrance (or a The Cheat)

Those aren't in an particular order really. Just how they came out of my brain.

If so - we gotta talk - I got parts like mad for ya.

Oh - and the rest of the stuff's nice too :P
  • i'd recommend the Bose QuietComfort2 Aucoustic Noise Canceling Headphones. $300, damn they must be nice.

I can't help you with Sterrance, but you can get a The Cheat [yahoo.com].

You can get nice noise cancelling headphones for less. Bose stuff is genreally a rip off. Nice, but a rip off. You can get adequate ones for $50, and if you have to take planes often they are well worth the money, even if you don't listen to anything with them.
      • I've had bad luck with noise-cancelling headphones. I might be a bit more rough with my toys, as I carry them in a backpack or jacket. Still, can't remember the company, but whoever first marketed the technology, had a $60 set. My set, and my Dad's set both stopped working within a year. Then I got a set from Aiwa for ~50. They still work as headphones, but the NC is broken. That took a year. Now I have the Sony MDR-NC20's. Those were $125 a year ago. They still work, but when the NC is turned off,
        • Oddly your testing didn't include the Bose. I would guess that they are just as likely to go out after a year. My cheap ones ($55) have functioned for two years now. You can buy six cheap pairs for the price of the Bose, so you can afford for them to go out.
          • Well yeah, I couldn't afford the Bose. :)

Wait! Don't go yet! What the heck are you using that are still working?
            • EarHugger Noise Canceling EH-1420NC.

Even if you could afford the Bose, why would you buy them? As others have explained here in more detail than I can, they aren't worth the $$$.

    • Screw that crap!

If you are going to shell out $300 buy a pair of Sennheisers [sennheiser.com] or some other company. Shell out another 50-100 for a headphone amp and blast off into musical nirvana. A good starting point to read about lots of different sets is over here [headphone.com]. Though their prices are a bit high, so once you find one that is interesting go price hunting.

If you are really lucky you'll actually be able to find a place to go listen to some of these cans at. I took a chance and got lucky after reading A LOT of re
      • I picked up a quality pair of Audio-Technica ATH-F55 headphones not too long ago that are pretty decent for wandering around. They aren't noise cancelling, but they do a decent job of keeping noise out and music in. They also fold up really small, which is part of the reason I went for them. I also don't get fatigue until listening with them for a looong time.

I agree fully to shop around first. There's better out there than most Bose. I know shopping around really helped out with the home stereo equipment,

        • Hmm, something to look into I guess when I am ready for my next set to go with my new portable.

Question, how is the sound quality? They must decent if you are willing to recommend them. :)

          • It's been a while since I got them, but when I was looking around they sounded fairly close to the less expensively priced Sony eggos, if you're familiar with them. Based on my preferences, a little better.

The bass is reasonably strong, but the overall tone is pretty bright, which is how I like things to sound. It's the reason I have Boston Acoustics for the home stereo. Bright without being annoyingly focused on the high end, but definitely not ghetto bass either. They are a bit punchy, you can hear a low

            • Yeah I saw the site when I googled them.

Was curious about the sound and from your description it seems as if they would fit what I want out of headphones myself. They have been placed on my list of possibilities.

I like to be able to hear the bass, the rest sounds encouraging. As long as the sound doesn't start getting muddled and more importantly as long as it doesn't sound flat or *tinny* as I have become acutely aware of with headphones now, I'm good.

Now if I can just find the player I want at a near

  • Just drink lots of water. I mean, LOTS. I drink about 2 gallons a day...

And I mean water. Not tea, not soda, not coffee, not beer, just plain old fashioned water. The other stuff will actually make matters worse!

    • Yeah, I drink about 80 oz. water a day, plus whatever I drink at meals. No soda, tea only VERY rarely, beer on weekends but with additional water. If my urine has color, I up the water intake. As it stands now, I go to the bathroom about every 14.7 minutes. :-)

  • Have you checked out the Neuros [neurosaudio.com]?

It may not be as pretty as an iPod, but it's features put it in an entirely different league.

If you, or anybody here for that matter, want one, I'm a reseller and can get you a discount.

Oh, and for a Christmas present, Neuros Audio, LLC released a firmware with Tetris included!
