Journal TechnoLust's Journal: I'm online from home! (Comcast High Speed Internet) 3

Comcast came by and installed my high speed internet today. Well, Robert, a contractor doing work for Comcast, came by and installed it. Then I had to putz around with the wireless for a minute to get it to work. Apparently Comcast uses MAC Address filtering to keep just anyone from connecting to their cable modems. So I had to clone the MAC Address on the D-Link DI-524 802.11g WAP. But it's working now, and I'm all wireless and junk. Fun, eh? Now it's time to go back to work!

  • Now I am not suggesting you try this, but it has been my experience that there is a little "reset" button on the back of cable modems. When you push it, the modem will recognize the next nic (mac) to be plugged in as its valid nic.
  • When I had cable internet, I had to power cycle the cable modem any time I changed devices. I didn't need to clone the MAC, just pull the plug on the modem and let it come back up with the new device. Maybe the same with you?
