Bought a 2020 MacBook Air. Knew it had a low power CPU. Still amazed that Safari regularly reports that streaming movie pages like Netflix or Amazon Video, may be using a lot of memory and slowing the computer down. If anything would make me switch to Chrome, that would be it. An intrusive message at the top of the screen, reminding me how under-specced the computer may be. Plus, why can my iPad/iPhone run video conference software without any cooling, while the Air has to spin up its fan? Seems a bit weird, and maybe points towards Apple's decision to switch from x86? Ho hum.

My new MacBook Air i5 keeps complaining that Safari is using a lot of resources when streaming Amazon Prime. How come my Arm powered phone of iPad seem to manage this just fine, and don't complain? Is MacOS/Mac hardware really that bad? Are the Intel chips they use really that bad?

An old friend lives in Texas, and her whole social life revolves around a country club. She recently FB'd that "Trump is best pres ever". We messaged her to see if she was ok. Her response that she had to support him, otherwise she'll be disowned by her family and friends said it all. Americans, be brave. Investigate both sides of each story. Look at foreign press, who are probably less likely to be partisan. Ask questions. Be prepared to change. Don't be a sheep. Don't blindly vote for a party because your Dad. Grandad, etc. did. Good luck. You're going to need it.

Absolutely agree. I often watch recordings of shows that I watched as a kid, on YouTube. On my iPad I now have a collection of Korg synthesizers. I could never have afforded them when I was younger (and can't play keyboard anyway), but no I can mess about with them when the mood takes me. All for a few pounds. Trouble is, the price of this computer is way to high to be an impulse buy.

So, on the one hand we have Putin making ever larger nukes and others trying to get to first base. On the other hand, we have Hawking an co. finding possible signs of intelligence elsewhere in the Universe. Let's hope our alien friends stay well away from us. We can't get along with someone on our own planet; don't even think about how we'd manage extra-terrestrial diplomacy! I guess that goes for colonising Mars too....
