Of course they are going to look at the game in a situation like this. The American way is that nothing is your fault yet always somebody elses. The same thing happened at Columbine, when the kids did that they looked at computers, games, and music that they listened to such as Marilyn Manson. Yet that was not the reason for the kids taking part in that. The real reason was rejection from fellow students and other people in their lives, and also the boys had menta problems. Instead of realizing that it was their superiors faults because they did not pay attention to the boys they blamed and media and such. With this situation the kid obviously had mental issues and the parents and/or teachers or people around him. This is not the games fault, it is the child's fault. He is guilty and needs to be charged as an adult.

At two he is way too young to be messing with a computer. If he started with one now he would probably by about 10 become a computer genius. But it would mess him up mentally. He would not know all the other things that the other kids know. At this age he needs to get out and go have some fun, discover the great outdoors. And most importantly books. My kids will learn computers, deffinately especially in the day and age that we live in. But they will know books before anything. Literature is a dying art. Somebody needs to appreciate it, unlike todays kids. I am 15 and I started computers when I was 7. And I know plenty, so don't worry, he will know what he needs to know about them soon enough. You don't have to start at 2. :)

I got this book from the library and started to read it. I was so excited because I had heard all about it and I really wanted to read it. I love reading books like these because I like to see if the world is being told the correct information about what goes on in the Nerd/Geek brain, who we are, and why we do what we do. So I got the book and started to read it. The first five pages I was tempted to put it down because it started talking about ancient nerds, and then it mentioned something about "Pride and Prejudice". But I figured that the book would get better and so I read on. I started to fall asleep because it was so boring and talked about complete nonsense stuff. I want to know about today's nerds, the computer nerds, not yesterdays book nerds. I skipped about 5 chapters and it was still talking about the same thing, and what is worse is that it actually used (in quotations) parts from other books. So I continued to skip the book and skimmed it here and there looking for something good. Once I realized that the book was of no use, had no point, and was deffinately not soothing my interests I put it on the shelf, picked up another book and read up on the cosmos lol. [That's why I make sure to get more than one book at the library :) ]

I am a 9th grade student and I know exactly what you are talking about! I go to a small private school of about 800 kids in 1st-12th grade. I am the only real computer geek here, there is one other kid but he is just about gaming and a little bit of hardware. Which won't get you much. So out of the whole school aside from the computer technician I am the computer guy. People come to me before they go to anybody else, I kind of like it but it almost hurts knowing that these people know nothing about computers (aside from myspace, they all have myspace) and that they are going to have trouble getting jobs because so much requires some type of computer skill. We used to have a computer class but that only lasted for about a year because nobody wanted to sign up. Now I have all the text books and use them for my own learning. This is pathetic. But a lot of parents that I know do not want their kids knowing stuff about the computers for fear that they will become non-active and start gaming, and sad but true thinking that they will become violent. I think that an example of why it might be the way it is would be something like Columbine. After Columbine nerds were being kicked out of school for days because of gaming and such, slashdot especially was jam packed with people telling their stories about how people had grown a fear for them. Many children had their computers taken from them for fear that they would act upon the actions in those video games. The truth is that the games and such are not bringing the violence in, its people that fear these children. These kids are rejected. People in schools do not support computers, they support sports and jocks. Stuff that will get these children no where in life. Something has got to be done to help the education of computers in schools. It is pathetic and very annoying. The teachers do not even know anything. The sad thing is that you have to be careful about how you come upon it, we do not want to raise a bunch of computer hackers and people that will turn to the dark side. Great point. I hope you can work someting out. As far as teaching these kids I have no clue, I have tried but they do not want to learn. I guess you have it or you don't.

I cannot understand why China has to make such a big deal about these types of things. Can you imagine how many people in the US are addicted to the internet? *raises hand* Why must they take control over the internet? The internet is a place to be free with no rules, where you can go anywhere and do anything. They need to calm down in my opinion.
