Journal Stargoat's Journal: Lying Vile Jackasses 19

And I'm not talking about Orrin "Let's Blow Up Computers" Hatch this time.

The Department of Homeland Security, unoffically the office of beating up small Chinese women, is putting together a list of domestic terrorist organizations.

Yes, this is the job of the Department of Homeland Security - Securing the Homeland. But, who are they securing it for, and from what?

Congressional Quarterly has obtained a list of terrorist groups recognized by the Department of Homeland Security. The only problem is that the list does not involve threats to American Lives And Security. Instead, it's a virtual Republican enemies' list, including such threatening organizations as the ELF and the ALF. (In case you don't know, the ELF and the ALF are a bunch of college aged white suburban jackasses who can barely light a fire. Both organizations have never killed anyone.)

But where are the real threats? Where are the people who blow up abortion clinics, Federal Buildings, and kill minorities for doing such offensive things as walking down the street?

These murderers are not found on the list of potential foes to American Security... even though they have killed thousands of Americans.

The individuals of the United States cannot trust the men of the political party that is responsible for the creation of this document. Clearly, the Republicans do not have the safety of the Americans as the primary interest of the Department of Homeland Security. The people of the United States must come to recognize that the real threat to the American people lies with the Republican Party and the poison of its hypocrisy. This is not the party of Nixon, or Eisenhower, or Lincoln.

Pursuing dumbass hippies while real threats go unchallenged is negligent at best, and criminal in nature.

Your civil liberties are disappearing. All you are getting in return is more danger to your life.

  • Remember that Bush won by a slim margin in the 2004 election. Also, Bush lost the popular vote in the 2000 election, but barely won the electoral vote due to conservative judicial activism by the Supreme Court.

Congressional races across the country were also won by Republicans with the slimest of margins. Our country truely is purple, not blue or red.

Why does this matter? The further the Republicans go into the deep end, the more they alienate the moderate voters they count on for those marginal
  • You're are quite a bit off the mark with both ALF and ELF.

The Animal Liberation Front has broken into labs and released lab animals with possibly contagious diseases, they are only fortunate that none of their "Liberated" animals has had anything horribly contagious to the general population yet.

The Earth Liberation Front burns down buildings wherever they perceive that there is suburban expansion. They may have been involved in causing deaths already, but not directly implicated as it is hard to sort

    • that hardly lets them off the hook for illegal and irresponsible actions endangering US citizens.

And where, precisely, was StarGoat arguing that they should be let off any hooks for their illegal activities?

Once again, the rightward leaning voices try to portray anyone who wants to treat crimes and criminals with appropriate rather than overwhelming responses as letting crime run rampant.

Now if I were to apply your line of reasoning to the corporate boardroom, where quite a lot of malfeasance and "illegal

      • Both groups actively recruit. Both groups have a political agenda that is forwarded by trying to force submission by illegal acts. Both groups are endangering the general population. Both groups solicit funds to underwrite their activities.

Just what does a group have to do to be worthy of being on a terrorist watch list by you guys? Is it only religious extremists that can get the title? In many ways at the top, both of these groups are religious cults.

Or are you giving them a pass because in some

        • In many ways at the top, both of these groups are religious cults.

So is the republican party, but we're not calling them a terrorist organization, are we?

          • Sorry, I thought I was answering why ALF and ELF belong on the list. If you want to just bash Republicans that would be a different discussion.
            • The fact is that there is a continuum of bad behavior. Personally, I think "terrorism" belongs on one end of that continuum, the extreme end. Apparently your definition is such that any criminal who does anything even slightly coordinated with some other criminal is now a terrorist; certainly that's the definition our legislators are attempting to drag us to. Of course, using such a watered down definition of "terrorism" basically renders the term meaningless. Basically it's saying "we want an excuse to
        • Just what does a group have to do to be worthy of being on a terrorist watch list by you guys?

How about VIOLENCE against NONCOMBATANT TARGETS? Why should we include any group on a terrorist list that does not meet that one basic characteristic? What does recruiting and fund raising have to do with anything? If you are funding terrorism - acts of politically motivated violence against noncombatant targets for those of us who might not be paying attention - then that is a terrorist act. If you are fund raisi
          • Seems to me you want to have it both ways. The Republicans are Evil for wanting to put people on a watch-list because, well because they might just start throwing people right and left in jail for subversive ideas. Then harangue them because they aren't throwing people in jail left and right. Take this to the American public and they will likely blame the Judges not the Bush administration. You are picking the wrong poster boys for your civil liberties cause and you just don't seem to be able to realize
            • You know I do want it both ways. I want the Bush administration to vigorously pursuit terrorists AND prosecute criminals. But its helpful to know the difference between the people who want to free puppies and the ones who want to kill thousands of innocent civilians. I really don't give a shit if they round up ALF and ELF and throw them all in jail. But that's not part of the GWOT and neither is Iraq. Its just exploiting a political opportunity.

When the Bush administration chooses to divert precious resour
    • So terrorism is now anything that endangers the general population? Or just anything that endangers the general population which the Republican party doesn't like?

The US State department itself defines terrorism as "premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience."

ALF, IMHO, doesn't qualify as a terrorist organization since there is no "violence" against "noncombatant targets". Coul
    • There are terrorist groups in the United States that consist of cold hard killers. They have killed before and will kill again.

The Department of Homeland Security has acted at best incompetently, and more likely criminally. It would be insane not to blame the GOP for this outrage of a list.

Yes. The ALF and the ELF are criminal groups. The active members are terrorists, and belong in prison. But when compared to members of the World Church of the Creator, the KKK, various nazi groups, pro-Confederat

      • I don't know what to tell you Star. I think we are just going to have to disagree on this one. I don't like a lot of moves by the current administration, but I'm more concerned with freedom of speech issues as oppose to who may or may not be on a watch list. If you feel there are groups that belong on the list more than ELF and ALF fine, I think they should be on the list also. However the ones you rail at about not being on the list the administration or at least the legal system seems to be getting co
