Journal SolemnDragon's Journal: Escape from Baltimore 14

Blinder's written about this already.

I'm going to go right ahead anyway... i headed down there over the weekend to go record. Bestfriend watched the eternakitten.

Flight there was relatively easy, a little turbulent. But we got there and i didn't check any luggage, so i didn't have to worry about not having said luggage.

Then there was days of work. I mean DAYS. Fortunately for us, we're both psychotic about it, and the idea of eight hours of playing music- same damned song over and over- makes us both say, 'hm. Great idea. Let's try one, break for lunch, and work another four hours just to see what we can get accomplished!'

So, er, we got a hell of a lot done. He's wrong about developing vocabulary. The hardest part was, in fact, teaching the vocalist to keep a beat. Our vocalist is notorious for wandering off from the specified count... in fact, her lack of range and conditioning is surpassed only be her tendency to make up ENTIRELY NEW time signatures without bothering to clear them with anyone else...

However, i'm learning. It will no longer be the case by the next time we do this.

In between all this, there were two (2!) runs, each 2 miles in length (approximately.) There were many meals, one of which was consumed in the presence of no less than FIVE charming slashdotters, one of whom was of an age that he could throw crayons at me and i thought it was adorable. But what the hell, sielwolf, g's kid did, too, so i'll let you get away with it this time... (Angie wasn't there, alas.)

We made the discovery, this weekend, that i am not only allergic to tomatoes, but also green peppers.

*sigh*

I will be watching to see whether i end up allergic to potatoes, since that'a a nightshade, too... other than that, no major adventures.

I was supposed to come home sunday night, to work today. Instead, they cancelled my flight, and i got to call in sick from the airport last night, attempting to explain that i'd love to come to work but there was no way it was happening, since they were putting me on a plane AFTER i was supposed to be at work!

So i went home this morning, instead. I was not too worn out by the weekend, but didn't take a nap sunday, so there was no further studio work. Instead, i was given dinner and chocolate and forced to watch 'pirates of the carribean,' and other movies.

I got home today with no major mishaps. Bestfriend, unbeknownst to me, had given me a jump start on the intention to get it orderly. She knew what things i was trying to get rid of, and simply removed some of them.

Yeah. She's awesome. I brought her home a tiara. She deserves tiaras.

She met me at the airport with my snow boots.

Came home, went grocery shopping, took a desperately needed nap.

Now, i'm following the suggestions made by daoine and blinder, and getting back into the habit of cooking large quantities when i am rested. I made some mashed potatoes, and made some risotto, both of which i intend to freeze.

Two runs. it was ambitious, and i couldn't have done it except for the many naps. Every time i'd go to rest, i'd say, "wake me up in 15 minutes or so," and an hour or two later, i'd wake up, and feel much better. I would be SO much more functional at work if they'd just let me take a two hour nap.

Now, it's back to the everyday. I'm tired, but DAMMMNNNNN we got a lot of work done!!!!

And bestfriend hid the episode of GWE i was working on, so i have to find it before i can finish posting it.

She's thorough about tidying up.

Next time, i'm going to see if i can find her a tiara and a pair of ruby slippers or something.

Yay, recorded music!!!

You won't be learning next time? We are constantly learning. When you stop learning you stagnate and begin to regress...

Oh. You meant you won't be coming up with new wierd and wonderful time signatures? Well now, that's different then. ;-)
  • For getting a kid's menu. Not for the predefined crafts but because you can flip it over and have a nice big piece of clean canvas. Crayon, acrylic, blood on a stick. Any medium and I'm happy.

I was tempted to ask for one.

There are lines to be crossed, shapes to be drawn and colors to fill them in.
  • This song shall be sung in the time signature 1/2 pi radians.
    • actually, it was half bushel and three rods to the hogshead.
      • three rods to the hogshead.

In full (and with the correct values):

"The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it!"

Yep, I'm a pedant and proud of it.
  • Does exercising make you want to eat more so? It seems that I'm ravenous after a good long bike ride, and maybe that'll cut through any axiety or whatnot you're dealing with so that you want to eat.
  • That is only a few hours from me, but I guess you were pretty busy anyway. You have to let us know when we can hear your music.
  • But it was the boy's second birthday, and the Elmo cake wasn't going to eat itself.

Mebbe next time I'll be able to make it and as I am blinder's appointed 'drummer' I shall endeavor to help you keep time, either through visual aid, or by beating it into you as the case may be.

And you haven't heard anything yet for time signatures. Although the 'normal ones' are by far my best I've played in everything from 11/8 to 17/3 and bizzare iterations thereof. Ever heard a five-a-let? How about a seven-a-let, or
  • so I wouldn't mind being allergic to them. Well, actually I would since the tend to hide them under the cheese on pizzas and I accidentally bite into them. Gross.
  • I can relate. I was unable to eat tomatoes (or just about any other fruit or vegetable) for several years before discovering the problem wasn't the tomatoes. It was the pesticides, or rather what the pesticides left behind. I'm ok as long as I only eat certificd organic products, or products with thick skins that are discarded (pubpkin, watermellon, banana, etc).

My idea of roughing it turning the air conditioner too low.

Working...
