Comment Government action on weight? (Score 1) 282

Quote: "More than half of the world's population will be overweight or obese by 2035 unless governments take decisive action to curb the growing epidemic of excess weight, a report has warned."

Do we really want or need the government to take drastic action. Eat more healthfully and get some activity. If we are waiting (or should it be weighting in this case -wink, wink) on the government for the solution we are in trouble. Their only option will be to tell you to eat more healthfully and get some activity. What else can they do. They can't pass a law to ban fat cells.

This is nutty that people actually start papers with a statement that if the government doesn't take action, people will become unhealthy. It's our bodies, not the theirs.

None of what is said here should be interpreted to mean that it isn't a lot harder for some people than it is for others to maintain a healthy weight. Every body has a different body and some are more cooperative.

The point is simply that the chances of the government solving this problem are slim-to-none. It's in our hands. Easy for some and much harder for others, but the solution is there if you fight hard enough for it and nothing that the government can do will change that or make it any easier.

Not to mention the myriad of additional ways that they will have control over people's actions, if we go down this road.
