I worked in this industry for 14 years in 6 different plants in the US - the best years in my professional career. Why? Simply because, I worked with highly trained, knowledgeable engineers, technicians and Phd's. Also maybe because nearly all were / are anal retentive (read attention to detail in minutia), but that's why the situation is under control.
I have no doubt whatsoever .
I'm not saying those people don't have their hands full, but there is no reason to panic or fear these plants. Anyone who has ever studied a LOCA (loss of coolant accident), knows the impact and the measures to be taken. The documentation for running these plants is enormous but, as in this case, well worth the effort. What a relief to see on Slashdot that so many others understand this technology. Personally, I pray that the US starts building them again. Maybe then I can go back to that industry and stop listening to users whine because their computer shows that they have 10,000 virus' and need to click here now!!
