Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: Tell me why I should vote for someone else... 19

I realized today in talking about politics with a friend that I have never actually lived under a president for whom I voted. I voted for Bush Sr in '92 (my first election), Dole in '96, Nader in '00, and Kerry in '04. So, whichever side you're on, you want me to vote for the other. Tell me why.

I'm more interested in your thoughts than your critiques of other's thoughts, but this is slashdot so I have no illusions of how likely that is to happen.

Tell me why I should vote for someone else...

  • Just watch the daily show clip; I am totally convinced she is ready to run the country now:

  • Vote for anybody who is least Right Wing. We need to stop the continuing slide into fascism.

    • ...Or left for that matter. Fascism is authoritarian.

Vote for the least authoritarian. BTW, no-one who is even slightly (socially) libertarian of the average has a hope [politicalcompass.org].

There is no "Left" in America so that's why I said "least Right Wing". If I was referring to Cuba or Communist Russia I would have said "Least Left Wing".

        Vote for the least authoritarian.

        Right!

BTW, no-one who is even slightly (socially) libertarian of the average has a hope [politicalcompass.org].

Yeah, that's again why I used the phrase "Least Right Wing".

        • Authoritarian centrism exists. Usually it is theocracy.

Left/right is simply the wrong axis.

Very good. You're not too lame (as I frequently come to expect). I'll play both axis though.

Since Authoritarianism is most often seen with Right Wing governments (especially in this century), and especially in the US, I will stand by my original statement "Vote the least Right Wing". I've never met a person who is Right Wing who is not Authoritarian in some way.

You're right to suspect that my response was in part politically motivated. Indeed, here is my political compass [politicalcompass.org]. I am frequently mistaken by the entire left/right political spectrum, including centrists who (for example) wonder why I don't support the bailout of the banks.

If I were a USian, I would have liked Mike Gravel to get in.

  • Assuming that you are willing to vote 3rd party (and seeing your Nader vote in 2000), then you ought to vote for who most closely aligns with your political views.

I find the Constitution party and Libertarian parties to be far too isolationist for my taste. The fact of the matter is the world needs a policeman, or police country as the case may be. The UN, NATO, and other multi national organizations are useless or worse in many cases. And until there is another country willing to step up, the US will sh

  • I'm running under the "disaffected with everything else, return to strict interpretation of the Constitution as lawfully amended" ticket.

  • I'm a centrist, but a Fiscal Conservative, which is why I love McCain... even voted for him over W in the first nomination back in 2000.

I think McCain has worked with enough Democrats in the past to be able to bridge the gap, won't raise our taxes, and won't bow down to ultra-conservatives like W has in the past...

Yes, McCain voted the republican line the past 4 years, but it was mostly on taxes and war, and since he's a war hero, he'll ultra support the troops, and since he's a fiscal conservative, he'
