itwbennett writes: Despite assurances that only business listings and not customer names and home addresses would appear in the public search results when someone searches for an Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot, that is exactly what's happened when the service was initiated 2 years ago — and is still happening now, writes CSO's Steve Ragan. And that isn't the only security issue with the service. Another level of exposure centers on accountability. Ken Smith, senior security architect with K Logix in Brookline, Ma., discovered that Comcast is relying on the device’s MAC address as a key component of authentication.

Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm are all building it in, according to Microsoft. Years back, a number of people got upset when Hollywood talked about locking down "our content". writertype writes: Over the weekend, Lenovo launched the ThinkPad T431s, a ~$950 notebook with chiclet keys, no trackpad buttons, an integrated battery, and Windows 8 but no touchscreen. The T431s is also thinner and lighter than the bulletproof bento boxes we all know and love. The argument ReadWrite makes is that ThinkPads are becoming slowly, but significantly, worse. Do you agree?

The news media continues to focus on the drama surrounding Wikileaks and Anonymous instead of focusing on the cables.

How many US new organizations reported on the Cable from Tegucigalpa detailing that the Honduras Coup was illegitimate? This was a big news story, and an important situation in Honduras that has immediate impact on understanding the Obama administration.

It also shows that the Obama administration lied, and helped support the coup government by their actions.

So.. who is covering it? And compare that to another article on the drama surrounding it.

And that's just one cable. How many more will come out of great importance that everyone will ignore to instead focus on what Assange is doing.

It's not Assange or Anons fault, it's the News doing it. But this is their out.

This allows them to totally ignore the importance of the cables. And keep repeating that "nothing significant" is coming out.

First, kudos. Nice thread jack.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed isn't an enemy of war. War is government to government conflict. Al Qaida is not a government.

Obama is talking like a prosecutor (which makes sense). He will still be presumed Innocent until proven guilty in the courts.

Blowing up Afghanistan was over a simple issue.

Bush said, Hand over Bin Laden or the US will bomb you.

The Taliban said, Provide evidence, and we'll hand over Bin Laden

Bush said, We don't have to provide evidence, we will bomb if you if don't comply.

So we actually bombed Afghanistan because Afghanistan refused to turn over a criminal within our country without evidence. It had nothing to do with innocence or guilt.

Games Fail To Portray Gender and Ethnic Diversity 590

eldavojohn writes "A new study has found that game characters tend not to reflect cultural diversity. According to the paper from researchers across four universities (PDF): 'A large-scale content analysis of characters in video games was employed to answer questions about their representations of gender, race and age in comparison to the US population. The sample included 150 games from a year across nine platforms, with the results weighted according to game sales. ... The results show a systematic over-representation of males, white and adults and a systematic under-representation of females, Hispanics, Native Americans, children and the elderly.' The researchers also note that games 'function as crucial gatekeepers for interest in science, technology, engineering and math,' and that without these groups represented properly, 'it may place underrepresented groups behind the curve.'"
