Submission + - China delays internet filter plan (bbc.co.uk)

SailorSpork writes: "BBC Reports: "China is delaying a controversial plan requiring all new computers sold in the country to be equipped with an internet filtering software, state media says. The filter, called Green Dam Youth Escort, was to have been required from Wednesday, but the ministry of industry said computer makers needed more time." Except of course for Sony, who as reported earlier lacked the moral fiber to hold off installing the spyware, which reportedly is ridden with security holes and uses stolen code. Sony actually managed to ship ahead of the schedule."

Submission + - Screw The Beatles, "LEGO Rock Band" is Com (ign.com)

SailorSpork writes: "You're reading that right, from TFA: "Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that TT Games and Harmonix are developing a Lego version of Rock Band for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, with an additional version scheduled for release on the Nintendo DS. Players will be able to rock out in true Lego style, complete with customized avatars and LEGO themed venues. So far the only songs confirmed for this version are Blur's Song 2, Carl Douglas' Kung Fu Fighting and Europe's The Final Countdown." People in the comments section said it best — it might look like the franchise is jumping the shark, but what a way to do it!"

Submission + - Greg Bear to Write Halo Trilogy (ign.com)

SailorSpork writes: Many gaming websites" are reporting that Hugo and Nebula award winning sci-fi author Greg Bear will be writing a 100,000 year prequel trilogy to the Halo series, focusing on the Forerunners and presumably the construction of the Larry Niven knock-offs. Will he be able to balance the needs of his hard sci-fi fanbase with the Halo fan's need for a soft introduction to "chapter books"?

Despite my sarcasm, as someone who considers both as guilty pleasures, I am actually really looking forward to seeing how he handles this...

Submission + - Human-Animal Hybrids Fail (google.com)

SailorSpork writes: Fans of furries and anime-style cat girls will be disappointed by the news that attempts to create human animal hybrids have failed. Experiments by British scientists to create embryonic stem cells by putting human DNA into cow or rabbit eggs had raised ethical concerns, but the question of how we would treat sub-humans will have to wait until we actually figure out how to make them.

Submission + - Comcast targets unlicensed anime torrents (animesuki.com) 3

SailorSpork writes: "According to the linked thread on the forums of AnimeSuki, a popular anime bittorent index site, Comcast has begun sending DCMA letters to customers downloading unlicensed (meaning that no english language company has the rights to) fan-subtitled anime shows via bittorrent. The letters are claiming that the copyright holder or an authorized agent are making the infringement claims, though usually these requests are also sent to the site itself rather that individual downloaders.

My question is have they really been in contact with Japanese anime companies, or is this another scare tactic by Comcast to try and reduce the bandwidth use of their heavier customers now that their previous tactics have come under legal fire?"
