Yeah, when I wanted to see a (hopefully) sensible discussion of what was happening at Reddit—from outside Reddit—this was where I came. I used to visit /. every day; now I come here to talk about Reddit. Sheesh.

I'd guess that having so many subs go private meant that fewer requests got routed to Reddit's CDN, so that their central servers wound up more heavily loaded. Just a WAG, though -- grahamsz's theory about needing more requests to build a user's main page is attractive, too.

Since when does posting something online mean it has "no saleable value"? That's gonna come to a shock to the many webcomic authors selling hundreds or thousands of print copies of their free-to-read-online comics: XKCD, Questionable Content, SMBC, Kevin & Kell, Skin Horse, and more. Narbonic ended thirteen years ago, has remained free online ever since — and the author just put out a new print edition two years ago.

1 zettabyte / 3 days = 3,858 terabytes per second

That sounds pretty quick to me, considering that the current Fiber Optic speed record is only 1,050 terrabits per second or about 131 terrabytes per second.

Plug in the claimed numbers. At 1kW in, it generates 1.2mN of thrust. At 100km/s that is a power of 1.2kW. Clearly such over-unity numbers are bogus, and the only place for bogosity to enter in is in the 1.2mN/kW. That's why it must be bogus.

I'm not arguing; I'm ignorant and genuinely curious. (My last formal exposure to physics was over 35 years ago.)

Can you explain why this same reasoning wouldn't apply to any constant-thrust drive, such as a laser or microwave drive? Is it a matter of the thrust/power ratio? Is the "no-perpetual-motion" argument not that the EM drive can't produce any thrust, but that it can't produce so much?

You mentioned elsewhere that you support light-sail research. Hypothetical: Shine an ideally-focused laser upon a light sail. Does the light sail maintain a constant acceleration up to relativistic speeds?

Well, which of the two candidates:

• has billions to throw at an election, yet
• spent much less on his campaign than he said he would, and
• has alleged ties to Russian hackers?

Not saying he spent his campaign money on Russian hackers, but...

I think this is much simpler than the Russians trying to influence US elections or policy. It's about revenge. Everyone knows Hillary was playing god in Libya and a lot of people died, including friend of Putin...Muammar Gaddafi. Who was killed with US assistance and his corpse mutilated and broadcast on TV.

Russia took the gloves off after that, going after Clinton's support on all fronts. First internationally and now at home. All the leaks from the DNC to Soro's and his constellation of NGOs are all long time Clinton supporters. Taking out Gaddafi changed the rules and everything that follows Ukraine, Syria, etc. is because of it.

Clinton's desperation is just sad...she knows what coming and she'll be done.

Prior to this change, the path could never be too long to fit into the buffer, Windows wouldn't allow it. Windows only allows a maximum path length of 260 characters, anything more is considered an invalid path name. The total path length including directories could not exceed 260 characters.

It seems like Nielsen should allow tracking content watched on computer or tablet (or smartphone even). If anything, this situation just points to the fact that Nielsen needs to update how it collects ratings since there is no reason a Nielsen household couldn't also track viewing content from Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Wouldn't they see your change to the file in the history/blame for the line?
