Comment Re: Trains? (Score 1) 235

Trains are cool and all, but unless you're on the eastern seaboard, they have an on time departure rate of only 50% in most of US. They also travel significantly slower. Maybe trains could become popular again for 100 mile trips, but they're not going to replace planes for 1000 mile trips.

Comment Bad terms (Score 1) 16

It's not even that good of a deal -- apparently there's also a 5% fee, so devs will still be paying 25% on some transactions instead of 30%. Most egregiously, Google is allowed to change service fees on third party payment methods. Seriously? Fuck off, Google. And none of this stops the developer signing requirements that will likely hamper ad block developers and anyone else Google doesn't want to give keys to.

Comment Re: Illegal search applies here (Score 1) 202

I agree with you that it's patently illegal, but most likely ice will arrest decliners for 48 hours and not charge them with anything. It is a crime to not identify yourself to officers, but you're ONLY required to provide a name (or license if driving). They would not be able to get an obstruction charge to stick for facial scan. Just remember not to resist the arrest itself, and definitely don't fight back since then they can get you on resisting or battery leo. Just look down, close your eyes, anything you can do to interfere with the scan.

Comment Re: Linux is cool now (Score 1) 116

Definitely true for gnome (and their increasingly forced client side decorations). Fortunately there are other desktop environments and programs. Any program which forces those awful inconsistent title bars (which don't even show if the window is focused) ends up getting uninstalled. We solved these UI problems decades ago, gnome seems determined to cause them all over again.

Comment B2B (Score 1) 53

B2B is notorious at this. Sign a lease for colocation or card processing or whatever and most of them want a multi-year commit. A commit that lets them cancel on you for free, but you cancelling costs insane fees or pay their total revenue. It's anticompetitive and basically ensures they can give subpar service if they want to.
