W00T! RW has been offered a new job!
I've tentatively accepted. It is for the same agency I currently work for, on the same floor, about 50 yards away. Better manager (one of the few managers in the IS department that I would be willing to work for). Better pay. I'm currently a "3". I'll be a "4". I'll be starting the new job sometime around the 24th.
The offer was "tentatively" accepted because I am in the running for a "5" position with the same manager.
Of course, if I'm offered the position at Boeing, I'll defect in about 4.3 nano-seconds.
In any case, it feels good to be wanted.

Thanks.
It's still an issue. I am currently paying tribute as a condition of employment, which will also be true at the new job. ONE of the state jobs (and the Boeing one) that I interviewed for, but have not heard back from yet, which I take as a bad sign, would have been non-union. But if you work for the state now, you can pretty much expect to be "represented" so they can justify their "taxation"...
The union is having its state convention next week, where they will vote to raise maximum dues, and there

Oh, and I think that novel spec was just a joke.

Depends on the workplace and exact situation. There are cases where a union has made something a better job (pay, benefits, working conditions) than it would otherwise be.
OTOH I'm not exactly sure what benefit either the workers or the taxpayers get out of most public employee unions.
