Submission + - Philae probe to land on comet tomorrow! (esa.int) 1

An anonymous reader writes: After more than 10 years travelling, the Rosetta mission will take its next, momentous step by landing the Philae probe on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko tomorrow. How f!@#$%ing cool is that?! Follow the landing live (safe a 28 minute delay due to the time it takes the radio signals to reach Earth).

Comment A communist plot! Mired In Shitski (MIS) (Score 1) 546

It's a person with the ability to logic and reason a problem to its completion regardless of their coding skills or degree. But..... Most CS or MIS grads I've worked with were for the most part unable to cross the road on their own. They were however skilled in manipulating management into believing their CS-speak. Of course this also goes for the "bulldozer coders" who amuse and confuse management with piles of listings and errors only they can deal. Plot.... Myself and others have always contended that our college professors were all members of a Red Sleeper Cell hell bent on creating future impotent CS leaders. Case in point would be Gates, Jobs and the whanker who came up with C.

A Scientist Is Growing Asparagus In Meteorites To Prepare Us For Space Farming 59

Jason Koebler writes: For those of us without a green thumb, growing even the most hardy plants in perfect conditions can seem impossible. How about trying to grow plants on a meteorite? Well, at least one scientist is doing it, with moderate levels of success. "People have been talking about terraforming, but what I'm trying to do is give some concrete evidence that it's possible to do this, that it's possible to grow in extraterrestrial materials," Michael Mautner, one of the world's only "astroecologists" said. "What I've found is that a range of microorganisms—bacteria, fungi, and even asparagus and potato plants—can survive with the nutrients that are in extraterrestrial materials."

Submission + - Illinois Law Grounds PETA Drones Meant to Harass Hunters (breitbart.com) 1

schwit1 writes: Illinois passed a new state law that set back the efforts of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), making the use of drones to interfere with hunters and fishermen prohibited.

The law was created in response to PETA’s plan to employ drones called “air angels” to monitor outdoors enthusiasts engaged in hunting and fishing nationwide. Of course, the motivation for many outdoorsman is to get away from technology and be in harmony with nature.
