The day I get excited about the Vision Pro is the day I can play top tier VR games including HL Alyx using intuitive hand control. From what I can tell, this is a first gen dev kit for a cleverly designed iPad strapped to your face. No user account support, not to mention the need for custom eyepiece inserts means no sharing this extremely expensive device with family members. A lot of the early app support revolves around consuming media: something I want to do as a shared experience with others curled up watching TV on a couch, not alone while wearing heavy sweaty ski goggles that have limited battery life. Virtual keyboard as an input device: highly error prone. Googly-eye mode: creepy and off-putting for those around you. Walled garden app availability: forget about trying to use this thing with anything other than big-media Apple controlled corporate experiences. Nope. Hard pass.

Hey Gen Z, this is Gen X calling. We were late grade school to early high school when these Atari's came out, not adults. These devices are to us what Nintendo was to millennials. We're now in our prime earning years, are debt-free, and very much not dead yet. Now leave us alone while we buy our little brown plastic memorabilia. Atari's and C64's are much beloved to many many people. We don't give a shit about emulation. It's about the memories of the hardware. We want to dig our cartridges out of the basement, plug them into these devices, and play our 1980's games on our 75" TV's using the original controllers.

I suggest a different and much cheaper initial approach: a virtual microscope. Companies like Aperio have created digital slide scanners with freeware web viewers. Many labs and universities use these scanners to create educational virtual slide banks. Do a web search for "virtual slidebox" and follow the links to thousands of diagnostic quality microscopy slides, often with explanations of what to look for. As for a true microscope for home use, I would stay away from light microscopes. Economical + kid friendly = lousy optics, low quality light path, and scarcity of things to look at. You're much better off with a dissecting microscope (aka stereo microscope). No need to rely on availability of interesting slides, and kids have a lot more fun looking up close at 3D objects.
